Ok, in the rest position, it doesn't need to go all the way to the end of the travel slot. And yes, it does appear to be 'different' than the original.

The 'adjustment' happens internally with the contact plate and 'washboard'. It's not relevant to the rest position of where the actuating post is.

So the new one you have, and this is from memory, to reset it, you slide it to the end of travel towards the firewall, and quickly release it so it pops back to the rested position.

Hopefully someone else can confirm that, but I somehow recall that being the procedure.

Then you do the WOT set.

This switch will not “slide” toward the firewall. It will ONLY push forward with pedal travel and then spring back to center.

I respectfully disagree. I just did a search for th400 kickdown switches and there are many out there that look identical to what I just purchased but I have found several that claim to be new old stock that have the small tab on the slider. I believe the ones being sold new are not the same part number and do not function like the OE equipment was intended.

Push forward then, towards the firewall. Same thing or am I missing something? Or is the F-Body ones reverse direction from the A-body one? Not recalling at the moment.

Spring back to 'center' is the at-rest position when installed, correct? It doesn't prevent the pedal to return fully does it?

You’re not understanding me. It won’t move toward to firewall from the center position at all. So it won’t take an initial setting. The pedal arm only contacts the switch at almost full travel. I think im done explaining. I am going to purchase a NOS switch (not cheap) to have one in my parts bin. They are obviously not making the correct ones anymore. Thanks to everyone who has tried to help on this thread. I think I have all the answers I need now !

Ok, I get it now, the F-body ones work in opposite direction of A-body, like attached pic.

The at-rest position is in the center of the switch travel slot. As you push the peddle, it moves away from the firewall.

Take a pic of it installed. If you are saying that it doesn't contact the switch until it's almost at WOT, either the bracket is bent, or the switch is installed backwards maybe?

Take a look at the pic. That is at-rest, and the switch actuator post is in the center of the switch.

I'd check the switch for continuity when pressed and released, like when throttle at idle and when floored.
The switch is just an on/off setup. 12 volts when pushed to floor which goes to solenoid inside tranny. In combination with the vacuum modulator and governor the tranny shifts.

GM didn't want the switch to work except when at full throttle basically. Relying on the vacuum and governor to handle shifts.
