As long as I stay in Ca. I'll never be able to retire even with a pension and SS. You guys that can retire should! At 68 years old I still work full time and am lucky to be fit and able to do so. I hate my job but I still do it well and it's close to home. I would love to pack up and move to TN. The cost of everything here in Ca. is just outrageous and only getting worse. I took SS at 62 because I didn't want to be one of those people who checked out before I collected.

You should move to TN or the like. I've never understood why anyone would live in CA or NY. They are both too expensive. You'd probably live like a fat cat in most places in the SE US. Espescially if you bring your CA pension with you. I'm guessing family ties keep most people put.

The absolute best hot rod parts Facebook marketplace on the planet. SoCal marketplace/craigslist is bonkers compared to everywhere else. The weather. Mexican food. People also generally assume that all of California is San Francisco prices. Its not. I lived in the high desert. Gas was stupid, but honestly, everything else wasnt all that much different than Indiana where I moved to. So where you are leaving from specifically in California will have make a big difference in how much financial impact there is.

For me leaving wasnt so much about money, but more about thinking that entire southwest corner of the country doesn't have enough water to support its population long term. Didnt want to be holding property when the water runs out. I was also sick of the desert, but now I find I miss the blue sky and dry sheet metal. I loathe the rust belt. Ive lived a lot of places. Everywhere has its pros and cons. Except Kuwait. Kuwait just sucks.

I'm 47, when I grew up and during my early years of my career retirement age was 65, it then moved up to 67 and for a couple of years now has been tied to life expectancy. It is now predicted to be 72 by the time I get to 67..

I don't think I will ever retire under a government scheme here..

CA has its pluses and minuses. Depends on where you live. CA as a whole??? The negatives are starting to outweigh the positives. The only thing keeping me here is my business. We'll probably move to Idaho when the time comes.

Tons and tons of people are moving from CA to TN. I know of 6 people personally that have. In due time... TN will be ruined....

Yeah , same as Florida , people move in to take advantage of the prosperity but don’t embrace the way of thinking that created it .

I’m a Maine country boy and I got stuck in CA because I met a girl going to college in CA. I’m now 50 and just a couple years ago managed to get out of SoCal and move to a little ranch in the Central Valley. It’s still Ca but I have acres to breathe on and a big barn. It took me 30 years of living in hell in Orange County. Kept my SoCal job as I can’t retire yet but I’m doing the best with family here and my “good” job.

I'm in the central valley and can't wait to get out.... When I moved out here from the bay area 20 years ago it wasn't that bad.. though it wasn't that great..... Now??? I hate it...

Ooh yeah. A friend of mine grew up in Fresno and had absolutely nothing but horrid things to say about it and he left there 20 years ago. He and I both had just moved to the Bay Area and while there were things to hate about it, it was much better than the central valley! When our kiddo woke up on a long road trip she saw palm trees and was so excited "CALIFORNIA!!!" We didn't have the heart to tell her it was just Bakersfield...
