The quieter 9 has Motive gears with Richmond Powertrax Grip Pro differential. The noisey one came from Strange. I may go with an FN988 from DSE, essentially 8.8" gears & Truetrac differential in a 9" housing, supposedly these are dead silent.

Yep, and I don’t believe axles are included. But the whole of the 6-speed is for extended drives on the interstate and those outings would be much more enjoyable without the noisy 9”. I still may try to have the existing one fixed, but I’m afraid I’ll end up pulling it out multiple times and hauling it to the differential shop across town before it’s sorted it out, and even then it won’t be as quiet as the 8.8 gears would be. It would be nice to get it done while the car is down for the headers/exhaust.

Um, that's JUST the center section.

Are you forced to run a 9"? I forget if you did a quadralink or not.

Yes, running a quadralink. It doesn't require a 9" but building a 12 bolt set up for the Quadralink and the existing brakes etc. would be much more expensive.
