I just came across another ( to me ) massive tuning info gem when finally going through in detail his book published by SA designs # 78.

On the bottom of page 52 he describes in the needed detail how to very finely adjust the fuel curve of the primary side of these spread bore carbs .

This adjustment procedure is something I never knew in my adult 55 years of running a Q-jet carb.

While there are many items of info in Jim’s book that makes it a great value, to me these 6 or so paragraphs in the bottom of page 52 are alone easily worth the cost of this SA design book.

This info also puts to shame the tuning info about the Q-jet presented in the Doug Roe book of many decades ago about Rochester carbs.

Especially with todays fuel if your running a Q-jet, or will be running one this is tuning info that you should have at your disposal without question!

I wonder if Jim could offer the whole Q-jet section out of his book separately to us Q-jet running Pontiac folks because the whole section is great!

Pretty sure his name is Hand, not "Hands". Maybe you've not read Cliff Ruggles book on Q-jets?? It's also very good and he covers the primary adjustment procedure. I agree that both of Doug Roe's books are woefully lacking and additionally have outdated info. About the only benefit to those books are the Delco P/Ns he provides.

On some of the 74-earlier Q-jets, and easier than removing the airhorn to swap primary rods or jets, is to run a Buick, Chevy or Olds carb with APT. You can adjust the primary rod minimum height with the turn of a screw. The '76-later carbs are about as easy as falling off a log to adjust.
