Pinion depth is determined by gear mesh pattern and adjusted (shims) accordingly. Wondering if the OP got proof-photos?

Both of your pics of the ring gear show the coast side of the teeth. At least the wear pattern. Coast side looks OK from what I can see. If possible, a few pics of the drive side of the teeth, (convex side), might help by comparing each side of the teeth. Thanks.
