My 77 4 speed W72 does not specifically list 4 speed on the options. Ill post the windows sticker for it. I dont know if it was the base transmission for formula, or how it otherwise got selected.
As far as posi, my 1977 does not list it and did not get it. So it came with an open 3.23. I dont know if in 1978 it was different and the package automatically got posi.

Thanks for the info onetirefire! I just read in Rocky Rotella's Firebird & Trans Am book that the '78 Formula (and TA) came with either the 4-speed or automatic standard (no-cost option) M21 when equipped with the W72. It didn't say anything about posi being standard with the W72 (obviously standard on TA). Rocky also said the Formula came with the base TA suspension for 1978 model year to simplify inventory.
