I was rooting around my old stuff and found a rebuilt 1971 7041264 carb that has never been used. It was built by a friend who worked at a Pontiac dealership from the mid-1960s until about 1975. He was very good with carbs.

The box has the following:
- 70 jets
- 39 metering rods
- BE secondary rods

I don't remember what the carb was built for. At the time, I had a 1973 Formula 350 2-barrel that I was going to convert to 4-barrel. I also had a variety of projects going on back then. My brother killed the 350, so I ended up putting in a stock 400 4-barrel out of a 75 T/A.

Does anybody know what those jets & metering rods would have been optimum for? It's possible those parts came from a H-O Specialties carb kit. I bought carb kits for my 1972 T/A and my 1974 SD455 4-spd T/A from H-O.

I’m not sure I understand your question.

The 7041264 was a 400ci carb that came on a lot of different’71 models.
It’s a POE carb that came with 71 jets and 46 rods. The BE secondary rods are very similar to what the factory put in, which were BP.

Being a POE carb, I’d think the 70/39 combo would be quite rich at part throttle. It would not be my pick for primary jetting for a street-driven car.

If you still have that 75 TA carb then that’s what I would rebuild to use.

I ended up swapping out a 73 350 2-barrel engine for a 75 400 4-barrel engine.

I was trying to figure out if the 7041264 was bone stock or set up for some type of performance application. I had this carb rebuilt about 40 years ago, but for some reason I never used it. I wrapped it in plastic wrap, boxed it, and stuck it in the attic. I thought it might have been intended to swap out the 2-barrel intake/carb on my Formula, but I ended up swapping out the 350 for a 400 4-barrel engine.

I suspect the carb kit might have been something I got from H-O Specialties. I bought several of their carb kits, and in general I think they were a little on the rich side.

70 jets and 39 metering rods were used in the 7027263, 7027273, 7040270 and 7040273 Quadrajets from factory.

The BE secondary rods were used in all 1968-69 Pontiac V8 Quadrajets exc. RAIV.

I remember back in the day, it was suggested to use BE secondary rods.
