Radiator decided to spring a leak a couple weekends ago. Did pretty good after about 15 years. Replacing with a US Radiator unit, along with new t-stat and hoses. Just in time for the heat wave going on this week ...

Got my PTFB upper control arms yesterday. Looks like I got the latest version. He's extended the mounting plate for the ball joint back further along the arms for better front to back stability. I've seen some pictures of earlier versions that had a tube similar to GW and others. Then he deleted that and went with and extended ball joint plate and now he's extended that even further.



Previous versions (there may be more, don't know).

Tried to get the dam-ed radio out. Car has AC.

Figured out why the electric fan isn't switching on. The sender leaked from the intake manifold so I wrapped it with teflon tape and put it back in. Works great, no more leaking also no more earth for that sender and therefore no more electric fan..
Need find a way to seal the temp sender and still provide a good earth. At least my manual override switch for the fan works so I can drive the car still.

Seems like I remember that you’re supposed to use liquid sealant instead of the tape where you need a ground. I’ve had good luck with Loctite 567. Maybe others will chime in who are sure.

I rebuilt my buddies 4Jet for his ‘61 Cutlass. Finally had time to put it on today. Car ran great at first. Then we checked the timing. Olds calls for 8 degrees at 850 RPM. It was at 26 initial (Yes, advance was plugged!) Back it down to 10 and it ran like crap, tried 18, better but ran best at 26!
More investigation to do there! Timing chain? Balancer slipped?
I never have done much wrenching in my ‘55, but knew my timing was advanced because of the slow cranking and surging at cruise. Figured as long as I have my tools out I’ll work on mine.
Mine calls for 5 at idle, and it was 30! Geez. Ran best at 11 initial, so left it there. You’d think I put a new battery in it! Surge gone too!
Then went out and collected more bugs with my windshield.

This is an embarrassing one, but with my schedule ....It is what it is!

Finally drove the 64 GP (more than just a 1/4 mile) over to the license bureau to get my out of state inspection, then one room over to the title bureau to get a title in my name (bought it in 2019 in California). Then back to the License Bureau for my Historical plate that will come in the mail soon.

Drove a total of 42 miles round trip on the hottest day of the year Thursday before the holiday. 96 degrees when I left the shop. It spit some water out of the overflow when I got there, but I think it was a little too full.

Owned this car for 7 years, painted it 5 years ago & it has been 95% finished for 2 years & this is the 1st time I have ever driven it. I WILL be driving it a bunch over the next couple of months!!!!!

Funny You Ask,

No it does not, I actually Hate AC, so all the pieces are there but I will probably never charge it. I really wish it came without it, but being from California originally, no chance of that. I am fine with the "2 60 Air"...Put down two windows & do 60 or more! LOL

I keep forgetting to turn on the AC in my transport trucks once in a while just to circulate the freon & then when I actually wanted to use it (like when I was stuck between two tractor trailers in an hour long traffic stop in Southern Texas two weeks ago), it doesn't blow cold

Got the new stroker engine in the 62 GP along with a new clutch and billet flywheel. Plan on doing a startup in the next week or so. Also working on new brake lines for the 67 GTO. Had to remove the distribution block....what a pita with headers!!!

Finally wrapping up my front end overhaul. Most everything torqued, greased, etc. Also replaced the pitman seals in the steering sector. After bleeding the brakes, I'm pretty happy with them. Replaced the original master cylinder with a Leed unit. Took a while to stop the leaks in the new lines but am good to go now. Now the whole front suspension and brakes are "as new", only now with disc brakes! Front end alignment coming up.

Drove it!
Wife wanted to go on a date night. Went to one of our favorite farmer owned restaurants in a town about 20 miles west of here, then decided to get ice cream at a Culver’s about 10 miles north of us. On the way we had to drive past an Indian effigy mound way up on a hilltop. I hike this place for exercise, but my wife had never been there, so I took her to the top, where there’s outstanding views. It always reminds me of why I got the heck out of the city!
Then on to Culver’s for a concrete mixer!
Put a hair over 60 miles on the ‘55.

Culver’s is a Wisconsin based restaurant chain. Good food for a chain restaurant.
Concrete Mixer is basically frozen custard with Oreo, Heath bar, Reese’s, M&M’s or a number of other things mixed in. I didn’t stick to my healthy retirement diet today.

Oh I seee or feel the mix! Amazing the neat things about our nation in the different areas. Being from Latrobe and delivering Stricklers newspaper yes the banana split family,I ate banana splits as a kid still do. It was easier to get rid of the calories then than now.

While driving the’55 yesterday, I had a clunk while going around a couple corners. Sounded exactly like when a front sway bar link snaps in two. Nope, those look pretty new matter of fact.
Looking around I found the bushing totally missing, and some witness marks. That’ll do it!
Looks like Ames stocks em. I’ll call in the AM.
