I had a company come in and do my garage floor before I moved into a newly built house. They did a moisture test, and did a 'hybrid' multi-coat, using an epoxy 'blend' and top coat of polyaspartic resin.

They prepped the floor with a diamond grinder, no primer, then applied the epoxy. They allowed it to cure to a certain point before adding grey/white/black flakes, then coated with resin.

True on the 'not cheap', and I shopped for weeks with quotes all over the place. As an example, for a 26x24 slab, it ranged from $2500 up to a breathtaking $16k. I ended up paying $4k, which was in 2022 money. Especially considering the amount of prep work there was.

I beat the heck out of it, and it's taking the punishment, so am satisfied and not regretting the cost.

One thing I will point out though, with the flake, if I drop a screw/bolt/nut/washer, it can take a half-hour to find it, even if it's right at my feet! Heheh! Most of the time if I put my cheek to the floor and look at floor level, I can find it, but if you're planning on doing a lot of work in there, I would suggest a solid color or at least something that provides some contrast.

EDIT: Make sure you give it ample time to cure, and then wait another few days!

HWTSTR455, I had the same thing done in my garage. 25 x 36'. Cost was $4,500 last year. It was a fresh pour and they took moisture readings to decide when to coat. Also did the surfacing. It is great, couldn't be happier. Nothing hurts it and just wipe up to clean it. Folks marvel at the look. I thought about DYI, but read so many negative reviews about most of the products out there. Only issue was that it was off gassing for at least several months. My dog still does not like hanging out in the garage. I also had to chuckle at your reply about the flake and dropped items. Just yesterday dropped a tiny part right at my feet. Spent a long time crawling around with a light. Still haven't found it.....

I usually find stuff I drop, but it ain't easy! Heheh!

Like I said, putting a cheek to the floor and eyeballing across it horizontally is the best bet!

I was going to paint all the surrounding 'kickboard' areas and the step backs/sides either white or black, would give it a nice appearance, but still dealing with other projects.

I put up steel shelving as a temp thing until I put up a shop, and there's a slight gap between the floor and the bottom shelf. I've kicked stuff I've dropped and not found which ended up under the shelves. Uhg. Once the 'bird project comes along more, and/or the shop gets finished, I bet I will find a buncha stuff under those!
