No he's not. It's a 1972. No trims rings on the 15" Honeycombs in 1972.

Are you saying the s/s beauty rings where a separate line item in 71, 72, and became a standard option in 73? |

Hey Steve,
If ya don't mind could you expand a little on the cold hard facts about the 71 & 72 lore surrounding the honeycombs. I was of the thinking that for '71 the centers were polished with no emblem (plain) and the Pontiac arrowhead was added for the '72 centers. Also I don't have a clue about correctness for the chrome narrow trim ring for those wheels. When are they correct to be on the wheel? I thought they were correct for '71 models. I don't know for '72's. I always thought they were though. Eddie

Yes, 71 center cap had the swirl polish with no arrowhead, the 72 & up had the arrowhead emblem. The trim rings were available from the beginning on the 14" Honeys but the 15" trim rings were not available until the 1973 model year I believe.

That's correct. There were no trim rings available in '71 or '72 for the 15" Honeycombs. In fact there wasn't even a part number for them until the 1973 model year. From '73 on, the trim rings were standard on the 15" version.

Thanks a lot gentlemen. I never knew that. That is solid information. That would account for why I never found any part number for my year car in my Nov. '73 master parts catlogues. That never stops a hard head like me, looks like I spent a bunch of money for NOS GM trim rings that aren't correct for my year. Oh well I'll hang on to them. Thanks again to both of you.
Eddie

Sans means without thus there would be NO arrowhead emblem for 71 Center Cap. My statement above is wrong since I suggested that it continued from then ON. Opps my bad
Regarding the Trim Rings my information was from a good source which was Tom DeMauro's Firebird Decoding Guide 1967-1981. On page 72 in his 1997 Copyright version under the 1971 section he clear states and shows a picture of a 15" Honey sporting a Trim Ring. He also makes note that the aka Beauty Rings "completes the look". Well I have used his book from cover to cover its the only discrepancy I have found. Cheers Tom, you the Man! Thanks for the info guys never to old to learn something new. I guess I'll just have to find something else wrong with Mikey's |

This attachment is from a 1971 Dealers Sales Manual, page R-3. Although the picture appears to show a trim ring on the 15" Honeycomb, the description states: "15-inch (with 60 series tires) standard (crossed out and changed to available) on Trans Am without trim rings....". Guess it's been right under my nose all this time & I never noticed.

Just for the record the Sales Manual has been wrong and or mis-guiding in the past so dont hold what it states to be 100% correct either.
