correct me if Im wrong but wasnt this car bought sans engine?

I bought the car as a roller. I have a few th-350's and the driveshaft will work just the same. Radiator will also work because it has the provisions for the cooler lines. Fuel line is in the same location,frame mounts will need changed and harness.

Scratch my respond about the fuel line yes that would need changed also. I already removed the fuel line from the front to the rear to paint the underside of the car I forgot it went to the pass side. If I do decide to install the 350 I would have to get a new front to rear fuel line and re-install the old line when the OHC goes back in.

That's why they make rubber hoses. As long as the 350 is temporary just run a length of rubber line to where it needs to go, will work perfect unless the 350 actuall interferes with the line routing. Worse case simply bend up a "temporary length" of metal line and just connect them with ~3" of rubber hose. IMO, the most important thing for a project car is to be drivable, it keeps motivation up IMO. Just make sure that 350 sucks so bad that you won't regret going down to an L6 afterwards.

Im still back and fourth on what to do my 250 is so far away from completion not to mention parts availability. The 350 isnt quite ready either but parts are not a problem to come by. Deep down I know I really want the OHC in the car,im going to hold off on doing anything crazy and continue on the rest of the car. If parts come up that I need I'll try to buy them. Thanks for all the input guys.

you keep going back to the parts availability issue.
Is this really the issue,or is it a budget issue? If you want to use the 69 short block, just have a 66 balancer machined,use a 66 intake/exhaust and any of the rest of parts you chose to mix and match.

67 isnt the same but will function ok
I have both in NOS not sure if your budget cant handle it and of course I wouldnt buy an NOS to bore it out. use a 66-7 1 bbl balancer to bore but finding all the right pulleys is whats tricky. At some point you need to figure out if you want a running motor or a correct running motor. Im pretty sure that in one day all the correct parts could be rounded up.

For what it's worth, you've seen on my project, I'm building a "throw together" OHC engine for my '69 Firebird so I can be driving it way sooner than when my "good" engine gets built. If you have a 1bbl one about ready to go I say install that one, maybe swap the 4bbl intake/exhaust onto it now that way the fuel and exhaust is all set up for when the engine you want to finish is done it'll be a simple swap.
I tell people all the time, don't let perfect get in the way of getting it done. Far too many folks held up on projects for years and years over small things when they could be enjoying the car NOW. You can't get that time back.

Think I found 66' 1bbl balancer,if I bore it to fit the 250 crank can I use a 66' powersteering set up? Reason I ask is I know where a complete 66' p/s pump w/bracket and pulley is also avail. I then wont need the spacer for the fan and everything should line up with all the 66' brackets/pulleys and solve the clearance issue with the radiator.
I have the main cast aluminum pump bracket. |

I'd try it, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't. Make sure you have enough keyway engagement or that the machine shop can re-cut the key way.

bore the balancer and recut the keyway
take the 69 one with you so they can duplicate. You will need to use 66-8 water pump so the pulleys will line up.

Just so everyone knows the 350 is out the window. I'll be sticking with 250 and continue my rebuild.

IMO you will not regret staying on course with the OHC.
It will offer many challenges even with all the parts on hand Hang in there brother! I've searched for years for all the bits and pieces, if I had found all the parts easily I don't think I would have enjoyed this car as much. The hunt is part of it

I'm with Jeff, the hunt is the fun part!!! The two most fun things I found was a brand new carb in a ratty box at English town , and a belt adjusting tool at Carlisle... Yes I still have them.... How much stuff can we have in the garage before we are labeled as a hoarder? Ron

I agree the part search is a challenge but I enjoy it! Everything I've learned from you guys is great I look forward to learning more. Anyone can find a Pontiac V8 and throw it in but not everyone will take the challenge on one of these OHC engines.
