For all you sick minds out there, I do mean the dipstick on my 65 GTO.
The motor was just rebuilt last year, which I thought might correct this issue, but every time I push it down, it pops right back up when I start it. Thanks in advance!

I may have a dumb question but did you remember to put the lower dip stick tube in that bolts to the main cap?
crank/rods may be hitting the dip stick is the end of the dip stick, inside the motor, look damaged in any way?

Do you have at least one vent on one of your valve covers. If not, the motor is trying to vent out of the dipstick tube.

Try turning the dipstick 180 degrees, the end may be hitting the crank..... it worked for me.

also be surethe pcv valve is working properly.

That's NITROUS OXIDE that you're supposed to be putting into the engine, not SILDENAFIL CITRATE!(That's Viagra for all you younger guys) Hey, I couldn't resist.

Yeah, lower dipstick tube...is it in place? Had a 389 without one, and it just beat up the stick.

Mine 389 does the same thing but only when the engine gets over about 2500 rpm.. Weird.. I thought it must be vibration. I'll try to turn it around and see if that works. I know the lower tube is in because I put it in and the PVC valve is good.

Mine does the same thing. I believe there should be a rubber grommet in the ring on the dipstick that goes over the tube, which mine is missing. Anybody agree?

On my 64 the dipstick has a section on the top that is sorta like a "Y" and I took a screwdrive and spread it apart and it fit a little more snug in the dipstick tube and stopped popping out. I took this advise from my wife as she is an expert on dipsticks popping out.

I turned mine 180 and it has stayed put since then... man, if all repairs/problems were that easy to fix I'd be in heaven.... and bored!!

I to have a 65 389 with the dip stick popping up.All parts of the tube are in place. So your turning the dip stick around, which way are you placing the finger ring? I've tried both ways. Motor was rebuilt in 2000 and has 5000 miles on it now.

Mine is a 1965 389 also rebuilt last September... the DS was popping out all the time until I turned it in this direction... photo attached.

mine edges up a bit.....I'd say maby 1/8 - 1/4" on each run around town. It's never a problem, I just push it back down everytime I pop the hood....which is quite a bit....(love to show it off if you know what I mean).

dip stick popping out on 65 gto 389
I bought my 65 gto NEW and it allways popped out and every 65 gto I've seen...unless you put in backwoods !!
