I purchased the car new in 1969. The car is in excellent shape except for the nose piece. The nose piece has deep cracks and needs to be replace. Please advise if you know any after market source. I have not had much luck at the salvage yards. Thank you.

Hey GA MAN thanks for posting the pics. The piece looks to me like a weak attempt as a replacement? It looks more like quite a project to get it mounted strong, correctly fitted and flush.
I wonder why it is not thick like an original? At first glance it looks like it should be used as a mold for making a replacement cover? Anyway please post after you get it installed and let us and the manufacturer know how the install went.

Big Pontiacs of the late '60's and early '70's are known for the Jimmy Durante nose. I have a lead on a '69 nose. If my son doesn't want it I will let you know. Thx.

There is/was a company making a fiberglass replacement but I can't find the name. I think the company advertised in POCI's newsletter (Smoke Signals).

Http//memturbo.com/pontiac/ it's a 69 Pontiac full size web site. Same guy I think... I too am looking for the piece for my Bonneville. Some company in Canada was remaking them and I saw that in the POCI, but haven't seen the add for a while.

Ok I bit more info on the after market 69 big poncho nose cones. Price is $125
The company is obsoletechassisparts.com but I had no luck finding them on line. The guy who loves 69 big canadian chevy powered pontiacs is [email protected], maybe he could offer more info on the 69 nose source? Please post if someone discovers more specifics on 69 nose pieces as I paid dearly to have one custom made for my 69.

I got the opportunity to see one of these installed on a car today. Me and the family went to a local Bakers drive thru. There in the parking lot was a 69 Catalina 4 door, silver/grey with tork Thrust. Looked nice and I looked at the nose and couldn't believe how nice it looked (dark but car was lit pretty well) Anyway I checked it out for a few minutes and finally found the owner of the car. He told me that it was this fiberglass piece that we are talking about. Frankly guys/gals it looks good on the car and with a little work should be fine. He did warn about the thin structure but that shouldn't be a problem unless you like to bump other cars in a parking lot. I'll be ordering mine soon!!!!!!!

have not seem the reproductions in person , but i have heard that they are not the best as far as fit. i would take your nose piece to a good body shop and see what they have to say. they might be able to repair it from the back side. might be easier than locating a replacement.

Well, here is what I received:
Notice that the part number is cast into the top OUTSIDE of the piece. I assume this is intended to force you to perform more prep work on the piece before you install it. In one of the other pictures, notice how the two vertical edges (when installed) are not paralell. Each has a slightly different angle to it. This will need attention. The part is fairly thin, but I think it will prove adequately durable. Since it is fiberglass it should make for a fairly straightforward repair should it become necessary in the future in the event of a minor fender bender. I have not ventured out to the car to see how it mounts, so I cannot comment on that aspect. Perhaps one of you can confirm that these mounting points are, or are not correct? If you have other questions on the part, let me know. |

The big cat and the bonne for 69 have the same nose piece, a 68 and 70 are both different and do not have the same nose piece.
If you have found a nice original that you can't use I would be interested in buying it for a spare. [email protected] over here in Spokane> Whenever I park somewhere with my fiberglass custom build nose I am always concerned that some cigarette smoking fat hog driving a beat up old dented up import will back into my nose!
