Hey Guys..
This is probably a long shot, but I'll ask anyway. Does anyone know how to remove and replace a power window motor off a 1997 Pontiac Transport-Montana? It stopped working, I have the whole door panel apart, tested the motor and it's dead. I have the shop manual, but it's not quite clear how to go about removing it. It mentions something about unloading the spring. Sounds complicated so I may have it done for me, but if anyone has ever tackled this job, please help. Thanks! Will ps: this is for the front passenger side.

you have to tak the regulator out to do the job
once its out its pretty self explanitory about unloading the spring, use a vice and be very carefull, if you remobe the motor and dont release the spring ( or hold it in place) it can take your fingers off Drill a hold throug the regulator and the arm and slide a bolt in it, it pins the 2 together and it wont move put a nut on the other side for security then drill out the rivits and reiinstall new motor |

If you don't mind me hijacking this thread with a related problem, I'm replacing the power window motors in a 92 Sunbird convertible.
I've often heard about the "three large rivets", but I drilled five big ones to cut the motor/regulator assembly loose from the door. However, I couldn't get the regulator out of the door - I just removed a couple of screws to release the motor from the reg, but it popped the spring, and it appears I'll need to get the regulator out of the door. There's a plate on which the motor/reg was attached, and the plate appears to cover the only hole large enough to get it out. But it's also riveted in with 19 rivets. Am I supposed to remove this plate? |
