Is it practical to run electric fans on a street car? I currently am running a FB 400 Conv. bored .030 with a mild Comp cam, RAIII Long Branch exhaust, stock QJ, and Mallory Unilite. I runs 185-200 degrees, the high side usually at sustained speeds above 50 MPH. My plan is to go with a RR radiator, but would like to free up a few more ponies thru the use of electric fans. Is this feasible or is my present setup (flex fan/shroud) the only practical way to cool this thing down?

Robby,
What year FB do you have? We make a dual or single fan system from laser cut fan shroud. THe stock system is almost always best, but there are many reasons one chooses to go electric. From what you describe, your radiator is just not efficent enough, so I think you will be fine with our radiator and electric fans. Heres a picture of our dual system. Thanks Jerry |

But your system probably won't fit my 71 T/A as there's the cross brace that runs vertical in the the front of the a/c condenser - right in the middle.

It should, our 75 is an AC car.
THe fans are on the engine side. |

The dual system is $395. It is laser cut and polished, and includes the thermal switch.

Can you still use your stock shroud on a 70s T/A? I never even considered installing a fan/s on the engine side. You mean you can toss the stock fan and clutch or do you retain them for more airflow? |

My (7.50 1/8 mile).street car(79 ta) has a mark 8 electric fan. I install it for performance use, havn't went back to the track yet.
But it keeps my 455 cool in traffic jams 95 degrees outside. One thing I didn't like was buying a 104 amp alternater and 1000 cranking amp battery. |

does that $395 include the rad. or is it just for the fans. how much for the rad. and fans for a 69 firebird. i have a 4 row factory rad. with an 18" electric fan and it gets hot at idle |

I have a Lincoln Mk VIII electric fan and an Griffin aluminum radiator. The Fan is a two speed unit and works very well.

How did you physically attach the fan?You can buy a reasonably priced ($70) 135 amp alternator online from alterstart in dallas. Comes with a lifetime warranty. Several of my friends have used their stuff with good luck. You must upgrade your output wiring to handle the extra amps. Please don't get your 12volts from the battery terminal with this fan. Run a wire from the alternator to the fan.

I was going to run the wire into the car and run my electric 16" fan off one of the empty spots in my fuse panel, is that okay to do?

I use a single fan for the 69, $325. The radiator is $510 auto $475 manual. with the complete system I ship free and include a billet radiator cap. |

Do you have a dual fan setup for a 67 GTO? If so do you have any instock and what is the lead time. Also, can you connect to battery power or does it have to be allt. connection? How does it sense when to turn off or does it just stay oon all the time?
