I have a complete PB system for my '65 GTO that I swiped from a '72 Monte Carlo in the junk yard. Simple question: will the booster clear the hood/inner fender on my '65? Or will I need a smaller booster? I have read conflicting opinions on this, and I'd rather know before I get the whole car torn apart. Thanks for the help.

That is exactly what I was afraid of. I suppose I should price a new booster, as mine is used anyway. I would hate to ruin a perfectly nice inner fender.

I did the same using a '71 Monte Carlo system for my '64. I purchased a used smaller power booster for $35 and had it rebuilt and plated. There are at least two different length rods that come out of the booster and attach to the brake pedal depending on car model and year. If I remember correctly, I had to change out the rod on the used 9" booster. Check this out before restoring the booster.

Great info...thanks. One more question for RayJ, MikeT3x2, or whomever. I have located a 9" booster, will my '72 Monte master cylinder bolt up? Or am I looking at a new master as well?

If I remember correctly, I purchased a rebuilt '71 and it bolted up OK. It is pretty big compared to the 64-65, but it worked. I found that the rebuild kit was as much as a unit already rebuilt, so I bought the rebuilt one. If you do get a rebuilt one, ask to look through the ones they have in stock and pick out the best cover. There seemed to be quite a difference in the plating quality. I painted my master cylinder exterior with Martin Senour cast iron gray and it continues to look great.
