Went to Houston Raceway Park last nite with my son to race his 2001 Formula. He made his first run on motor only and snapped off a 12.50. Got around to get his timeslip and they tell him to go see the tech. Seems a T-top car is now considered the same as a convertible and needs a roll cage on any run under 14.0. He has the cage and we will be installing it this weekend. I do not know how many tracks are going to hold to this but HRP has to because they host a major NHRA event. JUst thought I would let some people know just in case. I hate to see a lot of the new Fbodies not run but this rule will affect many of them. They just have to figure out a way to let the Rustangs appear to be the better cars. LOL

I BOUGHT MY KIT FROM ALSTON CHASISWORKS WITH THE REMOVEABLE DOOR BARS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE NHRA LEGAL. PULL TWO 1/2" PINS AND THE BARS SIT IN THE GARAGE UNTIL RACEDAY. VERY HIGH QUALITY AND EASY KIT TO INSTALL. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TO TWO DIFFERENT NHRA TRACKS AND THEY HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. ON SEPT 3 I'M GOING TO BRAINERD MN. FOR THE STREET DRAG NIGHT, THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE REAL TIGHT ON TECH SO I'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

7's with a back halved car is too fast. I think 8.50 or faster should be required to have a 25.1C chassis, but that's just me.

Demand they show you it in the rules book, or rule revision pg. of National Dragster. The track is allowed to make rules, this could be the case. They just can't make rules under NHRA mins.I'll call Div. 3 this week and get it straight from the, O well you know. HIH

NHRA officials are present at only a few of the races ie. National meets, Div. points meets, National opens. Jegs super quicks, and ET finals. All the other thousands of races held at local tracks every weekend through the year, are done by the tracks themselves. Your tech official at the local level carries an NHRA bronze tech card, requirements for this card is, 6 hr. seminar once a year and an open book test every two yrs. Next level is silver card div. pts. meets, nat. opens. jegs series and ET finals, same seminar and testing procedure. Then there is the gold card. Test evey yr., and responsible for national events. The LED thingy is mandatory only at Nats, Div., Opens, and Jegs meets. If your track has one of these, then your track owner is taking them out afterwards. SOBs arn't they. In Ohio you hardly see a LED stop light, on a recent trip to Connecticut I noticed all lights were LED. There is only one way to change thing and that is to band together and bring your point home to the track owner. I've suggested that we post the problems at your track on PY Forums, with the E-mail address of the track and lets see what 8,000 E-mails saying "I won't race your track until you change _______

My son talked to a friend of his today that owns a speed shop and builds race cars. He personally called NHRA tech and it is official. He said it would ne announced in the next issue of dragster something. Ttop cars are now classified as an open bodied car like the convertibles and such. 13.99- 11.00 6 point rollbar 5point harness. At 10.99 10 point cage. Looks like we will be hitting IHRA tracks for a while now. HRP was closer but we will have 2 IHRA tracks within 150 miles from us. One in Seguin and a new one to open soon in Lufkin for all us racers around the Houston area :rolleyes

NHRA doesn't bow to mfg.lobby. Rules changes come from a system of keeping incident reports at NHRA tracks. Everytime there is an incident on track the track owner is "supposed" to file a report with NHRA. These are then followed up to see if the injury would be lessened by a rule change. Although anyone can submit a rule changes to NHRA before june of that yr. Not all, or sometimes none of the changes are put in effect. NHRA set up SFI themselves, then let them do the testing on safety equipment. The best safety rule I can remember is when they mandated that NHRA tracks move the walls up next to the track if they wanted a major event to take place there ie. div.pts.meet, national open, jegs super quick, Nat. event. etc. 8148 members could do something about the rules. BUT DO WE DO ANYTHING, EXCEPT COMPLAIN TO EACH OTHER?....NO....

Talked to NHRA (Div. 3) today and they say; "That must be a track rule there in Houston. If the T-tops are in, the car is teched as a full bodied car. If they are out they, must tech the car as a convertible." : Conv. rules, 13.99 rollbar, and 5 pt. driver restraint system, SFI approved and dated within 2 yrs.,and helmet. At 11.99 arm restraints and gloves. All I can say is to get the others at your track, with t's, and band together and ask track to follow the NHRA rulebook. Believe it or not this works! Also ask them to call their Div. tech dept. and get this straightened out. Hope I Helped HIH

I've made phone calls and surfed every rule rev know to civilized man and find no changes pertaining to brackets.

I have a question for Tiki. Why is it that the guys in the top stock classes can wear a T-shirt when they run in the 9s and 10s and I have to were the ***ggot little fire jacket to run low 11s? I think I have even seen SS guys in Tees.

Tiki, maybe I should have said ET bracket racers. These racers provide the tracks with 90% of their revenue. Alcohol cars are on the bubble with NHRA because the tracks would rather run super street. Why, more money. Niether the NHRA or the various tracks give a darn about ET racers or entertainment value. More whining---whats with the LED timing lights? Compulink comes up with this new and wonderful idea and NHRA goes with it. No input from the racers. Small track racers go to the ET finals at the big tracks and they have to "learn the leave" all over again. But think how many LED equiped practice trees will be sold--sorry Wally but it just doesn't make sense.

When the dude inspected my Chassis he mentioned something to the effect that all cars running 8.50 and quicker next year might need a F/C style cage, even with stock floor and firewall. That takes the street look away from most cars Especailly mine.
If I get that fast. LOL. Also the wall thickness. He mentioned, might be determined by car weight. The heavier the car, the thicker the tubing. And other deals as far as 7.99 and quicker and 25.1 stuff. I couldn't keep up with all the possible changes he was mentioning. Just glad I'm now good for another 3 years. I believe in safety, but if this is true, then I feel it's a NHRA, Manufacture, Contingency conspircey. But just an Opinion. Sorta like the window net deal. Tiki, missed ya at Norwalk? Also. I heard a rumor that in the rule book it says nothing about the window net being replaced if it doesn't have a date tag, just the seat belts? Interesting. Just got my car certified today. Good to 8.50 no faster. These new rules are already in effect. NHRA tech man gave me a copy of what would have to be done my car to get it to 8.49 down. Not only a funny car cage but braces to be installed under the body also. I will see if i can scan it and post it.
Inspector told me they are trying to give the heavy street cars the heave ho, or keep them from going faster than 8.50. on a diet to go faster........
