No one in the street section has answered, so here goes.....
I'm about to mount my first flexplate and need to know if I'm to use loctite when torqueing to 95 ft.lbs? Thanks, Dave |

I am assuming your using a stock flexplate. The dimple on the flexplate aligns over top of the blind hole in the crank flange. Good luck.

Cat SFI Flexplate that was was check for round before it left the suppliers shop...(Either Dude or Kaufman).

I've never used Locktite on flex to crank bolts. I never had one loosen either. They are all knuckle busting tight still when ever I disassemble..

locktite is not dependent on bolt diameter, blue works on bolts larger than 1/4.

I (red) Loctite them, regardless of what the shop manual says.

Engineer- Yes, 242 Blue Loctite can be used on larger fasteners, in fact Loctite says 1/4"-3/4" diameter. Some of us, though, lean toward not using it on highly loaded places like crank flange bolts, since it's a "medium strength" threadlocker. Loctite's suggested applications of 242 include: Valve cover bolts, water pump bolts, and oil pan bolts.

I should add that the last 2 bolt holes are so close that I'm pretty sure I have it on correctly. Like I said, the threads almost catch but then I can't turn them with my fingers. Without the flexplate all 6 bolts go in easily with fingers.
How about a small hole file to slightly open up the holes? |

"Blue 242" is intended for smaller diameter fasteners- I think 1/4" and smaller.

You don't need to use loctite on them. Just torque them to spec. They will never back out.

So thats what happened with my TCI flexplate! I agree Red Locktite. It makes a terrible sound when one or more of the bolts come loose!

Thanks "Pontiac Jack".....I'll get some tonight.
I'm trial fitting and am fighting with the thin metal shim, so I'm going to leave it off???? and then I can get only get 4 of the bolts in and the other 2 bind as I try to start the threads????Any Ideas whats up here??? |
