Can you add anything factual between difference in:

-ESP crank...3" main, 4.25" stroke, 2.2 rod journal

-Ohio Crank...3" main, 4.25" stroke, 2.2 rod journal

-this new never before released 4.21 stroke 3" main crank with 2.25 mains & nitriding???

This last crank offering appears to be different to us layman. $340 sounds a lot cheaper than the 2 year ago Butler "deal" on the ESP [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif[/img]

Yes Tom you are correct! Will have pics on the website soon and pics in P.E.
And also in my new 1/2 page adds!! It is a nice piece! Would not say it if it wasn't true.
They are the best aftermarket CAST cranks out there. The rods are in the middle of tollerance. The main are on the hi-side. Which is actualy good. Tollerances are good for completly STOCK motor. On a performance I would polish it up to give a little more clearance. They actualy did there homework for this one! And it has payed off!! The nitriding looks awesome!!!

Do not, I repeaat, do not walk into your local Pep Boys asking for one of these cranks. Not only can't they get one, they'll just look at you funny.

I used to enjoy going in Pep Boys for valve cover gaskets. They're trained to ask for year, make, and model, and then a myriad of other things that don't matter where valve cover gaskets are concerned. You should see the look on their face when I tell them it's a Pontiac V8, pick any year or model you want as long as it's before 1975.

Their most likely made by the same forging place as the Eagle's. As far as I know you can by that same Cranky from Ohio crank for 299.00, 340.00 is not a deal.

I think this is great news for the Pontiac world. If this crank is as strong as the Pontiac factory cranks made by GM in the 60's & 70's this is super news and a good price too. Of course if you already have BBC rods you can grind the rod journal to fit or even stroke it to 4.25. Plenty of 400 blocks out in them wrecking yards just waiting to be reborn into a 455 [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif[/img]

Does this mean they made a run and the cranks are almost all sold out? If so, is it likely that there'll be demand in the future to make it worth someone's effort to have another batch made and sell them too? I got several 400 engines sitting here and thought they'd be worth holding onto largely because of these cranks. Otherwise I'd sell some of them. Mike

It is a C.A.T. piece. You must have seen the 1 Ohio crank in srock. Ohio does NOT make a 3 inch 4.21 stroke. There are 12 companies in China making cranks!!! CAT has there own facility in China as does Eagle. So they make come from the same design OR blueprint. But they are all made at different plants. The CATS are all Nitrided for added strength. So $340 is a good price unless you get it off of E-Bay! Cat is about 25 mins from me. Jamie and the crew there are realy kewl people. I was offered a tour. Prob will go check it out!

So if I read your post correctly, this is a 3 inch standard main, 400 thrust bearing, 4.210 (455 stroke), 2.25 (pontiac) std rod journal, with smooth seal area, and the cranks have been nitrided and straightened. Tom V.

And yes!!! Stock rods from any Pontiac v-8 will work! Will be putting together Crank & Piston kits, at a savings of a few bucks. They are in stock!!! I will be closed this week. But if anyone would like one. Leave a mesage on my answering machine or E-mail me!!
Guy is right! They are sweet! Nitrided!! WOW! They are all Black except for journals!! And 1 more excellent thing to point out! IThey are made for the BOP rear main seals!! The seal area on the crank is SMOOTH!!! Yup! This is a great piece!

Darrell, Call Ace at Pacific Performance Racing San Pedro, Calif. 310-832-4596. I was at his shop last weekend, and he had only 6 left. Price was (I think) 349.00, and its a really sweet crank. Ken (Ace) had em checked out, and he reported back they are very nicely finished. They are even Nitrided. I may even pick one up...455 cubes, 3" main, stock length/size Pontiac rods can be used.

I have one of the 3" main, 2.25, 4.21 cranks. Got it about a month ago on Ebay. The crank was a CAT crank, drop shipped directly from them, although it was purchased through an ebay vendor. There is a local guy Dynaflow who has them also. I don't recall what I paid (sorry) but it was in that area. The crank journals measure good and generally looks of good quality but thats the only thing i have checked. One problem I did have was that it was poorly packaged and came with the flange broke. I recieved a replacement 2 days later before the broken crank went back. Service was execellent.

Rods are the same length for stock Pontiacs.

The 4.25" cranks usually use 6.8" BBC rods.

The cast cranks will work good for most applications,until about 700-800 HP.

I always hear that forged is the way to go and you said these were cast! Is this ok or should I find a forged crank? Also the stroke is 4.21 on yours Ken and the other is 4.25. Which is better?and are all the rods the same length on 350,400 and 455 motors? Thanks guys this is great info your giving me, Darrell
