Steve,
I guess I should have asked what width tire you were trying to fit? Just to clarify, I assumed that you were asking Q because you want to go with extra wide tires, in my case 275/60-15 Drag Radials. However if you are going to stay with a more moderate tire like my 245/60-15s, then 245s mounted fine on stock 15 x 7 (stock back-space) wheels and fit fine on my 65 GTO car with wider rear.
Don't want you go to a lot of extra trouble if you don't have to....

Steve, there are a couple 12 bolt widths so you will need to measure yours to be sure. Mine is a wider 1970, but if yours was a 64/65 one it should be okay. I have had several custom 15x8 steel wheel sets made to fit my car. Wheels shops cut the center of your 15x6 or 7 wheel out, then weld the center to a wider outer rim at your specified backspace. I use Bolton Classic Wheel in Gardena California (I like that they use new outer rims so are not dinged and balance nice) but as expensive as shipping is you should try to find a place local. My first set of Rally IIs was 4.75 inch backspace, my last set of plain steels was closer to 5.25 backspace.
Good luck
