My Baltimore built 69 convertible has PPG door/quarter tinted glass in it. It appears to be possibly original. I've posted a thread in the BODY forum to see if anyone has info on PPG date codes. I've ordered new LOF glass for it but was curious if anyone else had PPG glass originally on their car and if it might be plant, hardtop-convertible, or tint/clear dependent. Jeff

All Baltimore built cars used PPG glass for the 1969 model year. Anyone having something different has replacement or reproduction glass.

My '69 Convertible has all PPG glass in it. It is a Baltimore built car. That is why I spent big money to get a PPG replacement windshield when I replaced the original windshield so it would all match.

Yes, that was Baltimore only. All cars had PPG glass. A friend of mine turned me on to that fact last year as he has been thoroughly documenting every nut & bolt going back on his Starlight Black 69 RAIII Judge. Every Baltimore car he has seen plus every Baltimore car I have seen since has had PPG glass. We are now 99.9% sure all Baltimore cars came with PPG glass both tinted and clear. Until we hear otherwise I'm saying it's truth.

Hmmm, well I went with new LOF in mine, but I still have some of the original PPG glass (at least the ones that weren't still in the doors and got sandblasted when I had the floor done...DOOOHHHH). Do you guys have the PPG date coding format? I'd like to check the date codes on them.

That's the company I got my PPG windshield from. Good quality, and came in about 2 weeks. 60 bucks extra for the original date code which I got off my original windshield. They have the only license to reproduce PPG. Expensive to ship to Georgia though since they are in Illinois but everything now matches perfectly.

PPG uses 1-12 for Jan - Dec
The last digit of the year = year; i.e. 1969 = 9.
So, December 1968 would read 128, March 1969 = 39.

I wouldn't buy from anybody but OEM in Illinois. I have used them for years on my Corvettes and GTO's. Reliable service, fair price. Beware, some glass people use outside etching for date codes. OEM correctly sandblasts the date codes in.

I got drivers side & vent window dated tint glass from OEM for my 66 BB Vette Coupe back in 89. It was laminated not the "SOLID TEMPERED" that was originally installed by GM. It cost $172.20 & $89.00 back then. The vent windows started to show bubbles in the edge of the lamination within a couple of years. Do you know if they have improved their quality & do they make correct glass now?

For gtoric, I went down and looked at the codes for the passenger side PPG glass I still have. The quarter window (convertible) has 2659 and the door glass has 2769. So, I guess the first one would be May 69 and the 2nd June 69. What does the 26 and the 27 designate? Jeff

SD Formula, original reference to me was from other mid-year owners, but that was more recently, so I assume they are supplying the correct glass now.

My Baltimore built 69 hardtop has PPG on the doors dated 128, the 1/4's dated 169 and back dated 128. The windshield had been replaced with LOF. Unfortunately the previous owner must have sandblasted the car before his horrible re-paint and wasted the glass. Looks like OEM just got another customer.

One thing I found very strange is that on the right side of the car, the date codes faced the interior and the left side faced the exterior. Anyone else's like that?

The 26 and 27 stand for the manufacturer's plant code.
