I just received the emissions decal for my 72 455 HO and it is crap. The font is wrong, the size is wrong, the words are wrong. The only thing right was the color, black with white letters...and I'm even surprised they got that right. Does anyone out there know of an accurate reproduction of the 72 emissions decal that goes on the radiator support? Why do people market this garbage? It's just as easy to make an accurate one as it is to make an inaccurate one...it just boggles the mind.

Does it say Osborn reproduction on the back?

No, but it does say "GM Licensed Product" and I got it from PY. Is Osborn's any better?

Jim Osborn at one time had the sole rights to reproduce GM decals.
His repro's were fair to good and I figured that your new decal was from him. I agree with you. Its amazing that reproductions can't be made any better than they are. Hell, look what we can do with digital photography!

There are some people in the Mopar community that make them dead nuts on from the font down to the material they're printed on. This stuff is just outright laziness!

Its a shame that OUR dealers buy this garbage to resell to us.

I got a correct one for my '71 T/A. I just can't remember where I got it. I think it came from Classic Industries.

speaking of incorrect or unavailable decals, does anyone know if the tire pressure decal (found on the inside of the glovebox door) is or has been made for 70-74 Firebirds?
I was looking for one last year, and couldn't find a listing for my '73... I should be able to get enough info to help someone reproduce it... I would think that with the 73 SD455 cars being worth so much, that pretty much everything for 1973 Firebirds would be available... About that emmission decal... the one that was on my '70 was so shreded and faded, I couldn't possibly know what it looked like... but I bought my repop about ten years ago; I never got around to installing it yet... now I'm kind of glad I haven't installed it - I'm going to look for other 1970 Firebirds, and see what their emissions decal looks like comapred to my repop - the way I see it, I use autocad all day, there's no way I shouldn't be able to replicate any of the decals I need... it's just a matter of finding someone who can print them on the correct kind of backing...

I just spoke with Dave at ECS Automotive Concepts (the guy that makes the perfect Mopar reproduction decals) I am sending him the original decal I have so he can reproduce it. He is in the process of tooling up for GM decals now and needs good condition originals, not just scans of them. They also currently reproduce the door conformance (blue) decals perfectly with all the various different versions and fonts. (and they are licensed by GM to do this)
Here is his email contact info: [email protected]. His website is www.ecsautomotive.com. He asked me to pass it on so that anyone with original decals should contact him directly. |

This post prompted me to get out my repop decal from Year One.....Its CRAP too! Mine is a '71 but has the same font differences from the original as NJSteve's '72. I could post a picture but what's the point? Oh I also realized that I received a "PM" manual trans decal and my car is a "PN" automatic....Doh! Anybody want a lousy repop '71 455 HO manual trans decal? Maybe I can get $20 for it on eBay.........
