Default Hi temp powder coating

Hey Guys,
I want to powder coat an engine and heads, I remember JBP advertising they had hi temp powder that would last on the heads and was available in different colors. Anyone used it?
Thanks,
Bill

Side question- Because of the higher temps involved in the typical powder coat system do you paint before any machine work ? Machine work like valve jobs & final block hone come to mind.

Any updates on doing this? I am thinking really hard about Hi-temp powder coating my KRE heads with the HotCoat stuff from Eastwood... It's supposed to be good for 1000 F sustained.

With the two center x-ports being together, the paint always burns off that area- would the PC stay?

Almost all regular powdercoat will last to 400F, high temo to 1000. Regualr powdercoat will last just fine on most engines/heads. The problem, we all know is Pontiacs long exhaust port in there heads. They can get well above 400F. I have not done Poncho heads yet, but have done SBC heads/blocks no problem with 400F powder. I am confident that the 1000F powder will not burn off, but it's pretty limited in color's. If I have time this winter, I will be doing my 455 block and heads with 400F powder, but the key word is TIME. LOL

I used the high temp satin black on my headers. Still lookin good, lost a little sheen but they are still good to go. I've taken temp readings on my headers (1' below the head) and they get about 625 - 650 at idol.

I forgot all about this thread, I was not aware there was 1000 degree powder. I would like a metallic blue similar to the Pontiac blue, or any other solution to getting something that won't burn off. Every paint I have ever used always turns then burns.

Default Temp Powder coating

To answer your question regarding powder coating engine blocks and heads. Yes you can, you should have your parts powder coated first and then the machine work, do to the tapeing off holes etc.. and the temperatures. I have a set of #64 heads on my 455 Pontiac engine and they were powder coated with regular temp powder coat and they look great except for the edges of the center exhaust ports they have turned a little. They do have a product that you can powder coat and get that chrome look its called armour coatings this will hold without any discoloration, just make sure that you tune your engine because running the car rich will cause it to start to discolor (bluish) same thing with headers. The cost of the armour coating for heads are around $250.00 a pair. My buddy has business that does this its called Aestithic Finishers located in Piqua Ohio their website is afipowder.com. They have powder coated my heads, ram air headers, valley pan, intake, pulleys, just about everything. Hope this helps

I use a high temp powder coating from Eastwood. Good even on turbo exhaust in my brother-in-laws turbo dune buggy. I 'm getting ready to do a set of RamAir3 exhaust manifolds next week. I think it's rated form 1000-1200 degrees and comes in 4 colors. It has silica in it.
