Get this.
Taillights must be on every run. The 07 book says functional taillight but look in National Dragsters rule rev. section, later this year, to change that to read functioning.

Can it be a marker light or must it be tail lights? I am planning on running a Pontiac emblem in the gasdoor and the 2 on the side of my quarters. Will they accept this?

If it can be seen at the end of the track/turn off by the tower or starting line, it'll be OK.

Everyone.
There will be a number of sportsman racers that will have dead batteries because of this new rule. I don't understand the reasoning to implement such a rule. New diaper rule will also suck for those with stock front stubs.

I guess it would be best to just hook 'em up to the hot side of the ignition. Watch Painless Wiring and Moroso come out with a taillight kit real soon. LOL

I always wire a car with two electric fuel pumps in the back. Each pump has its own switch, fuse and wire. I feed one tail light bulb of each circutt. This way if we lose a pump, we should be able to get down the track on one pump. I being the anal crewchief i am will see we have a problem before he even gets back. I think you will find a standard tail light bulb dont use that much power. If really concerned i think someone makes a series of diodes that wont.

If you're that worried about a couple amps, use LED lamps... They use a fraction of the current draw an incandescent uses, plus they're brighter and vibration resistant.

I use LED, works good and will last longer than standard bulb.
Guess have to turn it on, all of the IHRA tracks that I g went NHRA, Tri-State, Norwalk and Muncie all went NHRA this year.

I have always wired mine so it's on anytime the master switch is, this keeps me from forgeting to turn it on. I seen a crash a few years ago, the track lighting was poor and the guy did'nt have a light on, and they sent the next pair. Lucky no one was seriously hurt, but both cars were damaged.

The rules aren't very clear.....what's new..
When in doubt...go over kill and forget it! I'll just wire to my fuel pump relay in trunk or ignition toggle switch on main panel. Done and over with..it is a rule to protect our A$$..

I don't worry about the new rule. My concern is for the casual racer or novice racer. That person will in all likely hood leave his lights on between rounds. It more than one light bulb in a door slammer that is more or less stock and driven on the to the strip.

The reason for the light rule is so they can justify keeping the slow down and return roads too dark and not put up the lights that should be in place for the tracks. It's called passing the buck and responsibility to the racer instead of where it belongs.
