Default 69 3 on the tree

I was at a swap meet, and saw a 69 firebird with the OHC 6 and a 3 on the tree for sale. I've never seen or even heard of this combo. Anybody else ever seen this set up? I thought it was rather unusual.

Never seen one in the 25 years I've been running Sprints.

Never saw a three on the tree. I do know they made a bench seat car with an automatic shifter on the column.

Three-on-the-tree was the standard transmission on the base OHC6. Oddly though, in the 30+ years I've been involved in 69 Firebirds, I've never seen one.

However, if the Sprint was ordered, the standard tranny was a floor-shifted Hurst.

I'm pretty sure the three-speeds behind V8s were Ford top-loaders with floor shift with none built as three-on-the-tree.

By the way, the bench seat (with folding armrest) in 67-69 was an option, and in 69 it was only available with the Custom interior trim and only in black or parchment. It demanded that automatic cars got the column shift. Supposedly not available in convertibles.

There is a friend of mine from Columbus OH that has an original 69 with OHC 6 and 3 on the tree. It is the only First Gen that I have seen with this set up personally. I have seen quite a few Firebirds at the TA Nats, POCI Conventions, and Pontiac Nats over the years and have yet to see another. I believe it was not a popular configuration. But I like it!

The car had a green interior, but I was so intrigued by the 3 on the tree I don't remember if it was bench or buckets, sorry. The guy was asking $2700 for and it was in pretty fair condition for a WI car, but someone was paying him for the car when I first saw it.

Green interior = buckets only.

Maybe you missed where I said the 69 bench was black or parchment only, and only in Custom trim.

I didn't miss what you said, only telling you what I saw, no need to get bully about it.

My 67 was originally an OHC 6 with three speed on the column. It was already converted to floor shift when I bought it so I don' t have the linkages, but do still have the columb. Actually, according to my PHS, the only option my car came with was power top, although it did have PS already added when I got it. 2 barrel, Champaign with black interior.

Default '67 OHC 3-on-the-tree

Hey guys, guess I'm the new guy on the block and wanted to comment on the thread. My '67 convertible OHC (non-sprint) is 100% original and it came with the 3-on-the-tree 3-speed tranny. The whole car was was bought as an el-strippo with no options whatsoever. I know the car's history, as I bought from an uncle for $1(!) to save it from oblivion and to restore it to its original glory. The OHC-6 with the 3-on-the-tree is pretty rare as I understand it, so they will definitely stay to preserve the car's integrity. I also have 2 other complete OHC's to retreive parts from if needed. Wish me luck!
