I am looking into get both the back and front bumpers from my 63 Catalina Convertible rechromed. Looking for someone in or near the Maryland area. What should I expect to pay. Has anyone ever used http://www.bumperboyz.com/ They stated that they can rechrome a core they have and then you can meet them at a car show such as Carilse PA Fall show and they will swap your old core bumpers for the one they just rechromed.. over $640 for each bumper.. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have seen some of the BBoys work. Not impressed at all, there were clips attached to the bumpers and chromed over not removed! This was at the Atlantic City auction on the display table. You may want to do a search in the archives on them. I have used Keystone in the past, and was very happy. $400 each for my 70 Chevelle SS. I am getting a pair from Tri-City this year for my 71' GP $430 front $470 rear. Picking up at Fall Carlisle, taking my cores to drop there as well. Dave K.

See this post in the '61 and earlier section for another idea on price: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=529773 I've used the same company for all my bumpers and have always been very satisfied.

Thanks for everyones help on this issue. I called Northstar(keystone) and they wanted $619 for the front and $570 for the back rechroming of my 63 cat bumpers. I also called Pauls Chroming as he wanted $1200 each for a total of $3000 which is nuts.. I called Bumper boys back and they gave me a discounted price of $530 each. They have cores they will rechrome and I can exchange them at Fall Carlisle. I am waiting on Tri-city to quote.
Anyone else I sshould try.

Tri City quoted me something like $525 each with exchange for '63 bumpers, they had a pair at Spring Charlotte this year.
Never have heard much positive feedback on the BumperBoyz. |

When I was at Carlisle I was in the Tri-City tent looking things over, nice guys & bumpers also. I might have them shipped to me so if I have a problem I can take them to Carlisle in the fall. Dave K.

also, how did pauls come up with "1200 each for a total of 3000"? i was thinking it would be closer to 2400 total. keystone did a really nice job, and even though i picked them up, the packaging was so good, they could have shipped them anywhere without getting damaged. 13 weeks lead time though.... |

There is a company locally here called Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange. They just did my '64 GTO front and rear bumpers for $421 each. These bumpers are very similar in size to a '63 big Pontiac. This company sends them to Minneapolis, where there is a large nickel/chrome plating company that serves many vendors. There was no shipping cost. Turnaround was about 6 wk. Quality is fantastic!!
Their work is guaranteed for life. If there is any peeling, pitting, discoloring, etc. they will redo the work. If you are interested, I will find out if there are any vendors near you that use this plater in Minneapolis. The price is certainly better than what you've found there!! I'll bet themonkey's bumpers went to the same place as mine.

Dick,
I think were all interested. I have two bumpers that need to be rechromed.

I just had all my chrome done for the 400 by Librandi's in Harrisburg, Pa. It's perfect as always. Todd knows his business. They did the bumpers and guards for my 69 Z before that and that's why I went back. They go to Spring Carlisle and Corvette Carlisle which is coming at the end of the month. Todd has to see the piece before a quote is given. Their work is second to none at a fair price. Librandi's is located right next to the Harrisburg Int. airport , real easy to find. Their number is 717-944-9442. I think their website is carchrome.com. Hope this helps.

I've got prices from 4 or 5 different places on doing my 65 GTO bumpers and I've been shocked. It's been around 700-850.00 EACH!

i think it's a bad idea to swap away your original core. Bill (goldeneyee) used Keystone and they lost his bumper! he had a tough time getting another from same year/model to fit. But..... Keystone pulled through with customer service and worked with him until they got one to work. i guess losing a bumper seems irresponsible, but they accepted fault and made him whole. we all make mistakes, but not everyone accepts it.
not sure how they lost Bill's bumper (they stamped mine with a code on the way in). i'll use them every time. in fact, shortly i'll be bringing a couple bumpers up from Texas for a project my dad is working on. |

I picked up a bumper boyz rear for a 65 GTO about 5 years at the Charlotte Auto Fair. Paid about $400 and it was hazy within a year. I'd try anybody else first any if it were a little more expensive.

I paid 300 for 70 GTo bumper 4 months ago. I paid 350 for 65 cat bumper 10 years ago. I would expect 400 to 600 each for the full size

Bumper Boyz... Aint no way. I see their 'work' at the local swap meet and have never heard anything good about their 'work'.
I pay $450 per bumper for my '64. '63 shouldn't be any different. .... yes, $1200 per bumber,... someone is smoking crack (that or you're supporting their habit) -r-

A buddy of mine used Bumper Boyz for a '65 Lemans and is very unhappy with their work. I sent both of mine up to Denver Bumper and they did a great job. It was about 650.00 for the pair. There's a couple places her in town that you drop your bumpers off at and they ship to Denver. Turnaround time was only about 3 weeks.

Her's a link: http://www.denverbumper.com/ . It looks like their prices have gone up a little. Now about 800.00 for a front and rear for a fullsize. Look at their price list for '84 and older cars.
