Default No start condition- Help!!

Car is a 79' Chevette. Went to start it yesterday and engine cranked for a split second, then dead. No cranking,no click at solenoid.
Charged battery, showing 12.5 volts, loaded by turning headlights and accesories on for quite a few minutes and still showed good voltage. So battery good.
I showed 12.5 volts at starter, and about 11.5-12 at "S" terminal with key being in "start" position. So I figured solenoid no good.
I put a new solenoid in today, nothing. Not even a click. I still show same voltage there at "S" terminal with key in start position. This rules out bad neutral saftey switch and ignition switch, correct?
I'm stumped! HELP!!

Have someone hold the key in the crank position and hit the starter on the bottom with a hammer. (No Kidding!) Hit it hard. Sometimes there is a dead spot in the armature or the bushings on the ends of the starter are bad, causing the armature to touch the fields. I bet it starts with the first strike of the hammer.

I had tried that Jim. Still dead.
I started a new thread in the street section because of no response here.
I ended up taking it out and having it tested. Starter totally dead.
Thanks for the replies.

I was getting ready to say the engine might be locked up, but Chevettes don't usually die that way.
I didn't realize they had remote mounted solenoids though.

Correct. It is on the starter.
Yeah,I posted it here originally because it's not a Pontiac, but didn't get a response last night. After getting called off work last night (I work 3rd shift),I figured more people would see my post in the street section.
Thanks.
