Has anyone ever converted a '65 GTO console to a dual gate, or installed a three speed shifter in a stock two speed GTO shifter plate?

I haven't yet, but I'm going to. I'm going to run a 4L80E and I have a 65 console and a 67 dual gate console and shifter.

Saw a 65 in HPP back in the 80s or 90s that had the dual gate, hood tach and tri-power with the exhaust cross over ground off and block off plates. Nice subtle mods. Back when Pro-Street was the rage.67 plate should bolt right in.

I have not modified one myself but I do have one that was modified for a Dual Gate.

A duel gate is not a direct bolt in but not hard to do either. It needs the rear resessed part of the console cut out. Then you can fit the shifter in there and see how much to cut the front part out across the ribs. I just used the handle that holds a hack saw blade and went slow it cuts pretty easy. Then you can mount your console back in the car with the shifter loose to see where the shifter will bolt to the floor. I did mine that way cause I like the look. But Shiftworks has the stuff to make the stock shifter work on a 3 sp. and look stock http://www.shiftworks.com/gto.htm#64-65gto

I have done it, but I have also modified my 2 speed shifter to with the Shiftworks kit to get 1-2-3, and also just a slight tap to downshift to 2nd from third.
No modification to the console, and the selector lens still only indicats 2 speeds. |

![]() Are there any pictures out there of the tranny hump from an automatic car without the carpet installed so I can tell what it looks like?

Unbolt the porch, and fashion a plate to cover the hole. weld, bolt, or glue in and seam seal it and you are done. The plate has a bit of curve to it, but should not be difficult to fabricate.
Depending on the shifter you use, you will need to drill a hole for the cable or linkage for your automatic shifter. |

This one is the one I am going to use, so I guess the floor pan is goint to be a total custom fab job.
