Default TX Veh Insp

I am moving to Spring. TX next year with the wife's 79 TA and my 64 GTO. As I understand the TX veh insp laws the TA has to undergo an emissions insp. The TA is all stock. I can't remember if the exhaust system still has the converter on it or not. How likely is it possible for the TA to pass the emissions test with little or no
Upgrading?

Gary I'm not sure about the emission requirements in Harris county. However you can register them both as antiques. It does not have to be inspected at all and the registration is is good for 5 yrs. I think my T/A is about $70.00 for five yrs. although I'm in Orange county, about 90 miles from Houston. If your not going to drive them daily this is the way to go.

BTW, there is alot of Pontiac guys(PY members) in Spring. Big car show there every Sat. night.

I am not entirely sure about Harris County, but I am in Galveston county, South of Spring. I just had my 78 TA inspected a month ago and nothing required but safety inspection.....no emmisions check whatsoever.

It is supposed to just pass a "visual" on the emissions stuff, no sniffer after 24 years old. Depends on the place how "visual" they get for cats EGR etc. Larry can probably steer you somewhere up there.
When the 81 needed to pass the sniffer still I had to add cats to clean up the idle emissions.

Make sure you register them as antiques! No annual inspection EVER and registration is 55-75 bucks every FIVE years! If you don't want the ugly Texas antique plate, get some 1964 Texas plates off Ebay for your GTO, as you can substitute Year of Manufacturer plates in place of the state-issued Antique plate.
