Ok couple questions
I have a Sony DSC-W310 Cybershot ....good little camera ...the Card I have in it which I bought with the camera is a Lexar multi use 4GB sdhc card
I tried to put the card into my computer to look at the pics wont read the card....
Put the card in my digital frame it works in there....
I pulled the card from my digital frame which is a 2GB sd card just to check the function of the computer card slot it works ok

Is it because the 4GB card is DIFFERENT from the 2 GB card ( sdhc compared to sd )it wont read in the computer....?????

Only reason I ask is I wanted to erase the 4GB card Pics and I cant because the computer wont let me....looks like I need to erase them another way?????

do you have an old computer?,,some earlier card readers have file size limits

I dunno 2-3 years I think not 100% sure ...the slot on the computer MMC/SD
Is there a way to check the date in it easily....

The SDHC cards wont work in some of the older electronics that are limited to 2GB. HC means high capacity. I read that microsoft has an HC update for the card readers to let them read HC cards but I have not had to investigate that fix. Check into it maybe that will solve your problem. Jim

Can't you just plug in the camera to the computer with the USB cable and navigate to it as a separate drive? (Should show up as the E: or F: or G: drive, depending on how many drives you have in the computer now.)

Other than that, I agree with the cheap external card reader. Should cost well under $10.

Yep when I hook up the camera it comes up as removeable disc k
It also shows up a second listing PBMPORTABLE
The software for the camera PMBPORTABLE but cant seem to find a file or folder or whatever to delete the pics from the card.....
I can delete them all off the camera buy chosing multiple delete so might have to just keep looking or just do the camera delete thing.....Chris

Well Just found out how to do this it also holds/stores the camera as F when i go into it I can delete the pics thanks for the help guys...again....Chris

I found a quick way of deleting all photos from the camera (SD or SDHC card) is to use use the "format card" function in the camera's menu.
This is for a Panasonic camera but assume all cameras should have this function.
Be careful though as this will wipe ALL photos, videos etc.

I just found it but never went any further, when u select the format function does it ask u what do u wish to do type of thing..???
I'm not ready to delete the pics yet but soon lol...chris

FWIW, you should always reformat the card in the camera after downloading the photos to the computer. When the computer asks if you want to delete the photos from the card after downloading, say no. Then use the format feature in the camera to reformat the card and delete the photos. This makes sure that the card is properly formatted for the actual camera being used. Less chance of file corruption that way.

On my camera when I select format, it comes up with a warning message saying that all photos on the card will be deleted/wiped. I press "OK" and within a few seconds you have an empty card.
