I've read these will be considered wealth in the coming years, not stocks or rare Pontiacs or currency or gold or silver..although the last two would facilitate bartering and possibly a slow return to a stable economy after the road warrior days are over. No one can predict the future, but forewarned is forearmed. So is anyone preparing for the worst case scenario?

It was pouring down rain last weekend and I was bored, and when I am, I reload. I accidentally got a double order of bullets from Midway last time, so I just decided to load them all up.
Had about 300 reloaded rounds sitting on my reloading bench when the woman walks into the garage, takes in the view, and asks "preparing for the revolution?" Come to think of it, I do have a fair amount of ammo around, 12 ga., 9mm, .22, and 30-06. Bring it on, commies!

Here's my answer (see attached photo's).
I email my Congressmen recently, about some legislation that was rumored to be going around about gun control, making us register them, pay additional taxes to own them, etc. I politly ended my emails to them with this: They can come and get my guns whenever they want to. However, they will have to pry them from my cold-dead fingertips!......Cliff

IF, an end-of-days type occurrence happens, then yes; food, shelter, fuel and ammo will become the important staples of life.
I placed 'if' in bold letters because it seems every generation seems to think that the apocalypse will happen in their lifetime. Too many have been influenced by movies, TV and History Channel specials on Nostradamus, if you ask me. The end of days hasn't happened yet on my watch, and if it does, I doubt I'll be around to fret much about it anyway.

I'm not the first bit worried about "end of days", or a holacost, etc.
I'm preparing myself, my family, and my home to defend it from some POS who's all strung out on drugs who comes up here to steal all the things I've worked so hard for. B & E's and home invasions are UP over 500 percent here in the past 2 years and it's getting worse. I had one dumb-ars try to break in last Summer, instead of shooting him, I put Joe Joe on him instead (100 lbs male Golden Retriever). That idiot is probably still running from us someplace, and Joe Joe got an extra treat that night for his efforts! The "Castle Doctrine" applies at my residence, if you are deemed as a "thread", you will be dealt with according to Ohio Law. We will use Deadly Force if/as needed, but we would never use any amount of Force unreasonable for the circumstances......Cliff

PS: The Govt still isn't finding it too easy to put a lot of restrictions on weapons. Rumor has it that they are, or will make efforts to go after ammunition instead.
I also suspect (personal opinon here) that they will also go after high capacity magazines.....so plan accordingly......Cliff

Not a thread highjack but a detour, but why the heck is gold and silver so valuable? IMO, it's just a worthless piece of rock unless you're using it.
Why do people value it as currency? I'd rather have a stockpile of food, water and weapons. Any currency is only as good as the people that want to trade with it. |

Silver has always been used in the medical field because it has anti-microbial property's, It also is one of the best conductors and insulators available. The yellow rock is good at conduction, easy to form into jewelery and coinage, and has ancient mystic property's if you ask the right people. I have my doubts on the latter. But for some reason people have been digging it out of the earth since the dawn of man.
Ammo and guns = wealth? call us the Rockefeller's sound like when I worked at Cheap than dirt I was working for the federal reserve. |

A Gun is False Security, A Family with Guns to make war against the government is False Security, A Michigan Militia is False Security. Too many people watching RED DAWN. (;>)
One "pass" with a A-10 Warthog and you are history. The Government has lots of A-10s. They also have lots of Tanks. Libyan Rebels are getting their butts kicked by Qadafi's troops. One guy with a M-16 has little chance against the Government, (Think Randy Weaver & his family/ friend against the F.B.I. ). There are hundreds, if not thousands of "Libyan Rebels" who would be Vulture Food if not for countries like the US and Britain. You are not going to fight the U.S. Government with M-16 type weapons. The U.S. Government will be around even though it might be a weak government like Greece or France or even Britain is today vs the world power that they were at one point in their history. That being said, what the M-16, or the 1911, or the HK P-30 does for you is keep the scum bags from taking advantage of you in everyday life. "Personal Defense" is where it is at today. With the money drying up in the federal/ state/ and local governments, there are fewer LEOs out there to give the impression to the bad guys to go elsewhere. Therefore the Right to Carry for Personal Defense is more and more valid every day. I see nothing wrong with having a gun or several guns, and several hundred rounds of ammo (when you can buy it or reload it somewhat cheaply). See nothing wrong with harvesting a deer every year, a moose (if you have the money to accomplish that deal), or an elk, if you have Little Jack's money. Several S.F friends out west supplement their food budget with wild game throughout the year. Food, shelter, water, ammo, and fuel. They all have importance in daily life. Ammo & water more so these days with the minimal LEO and Fireman presence in most communities these days. JMO Tom Vaught

So you can get a read on the climate: I live in a pretty affluent county. There is basically '0' enforcement here when it comes to property crimes. Other crime limited enforcement as well. We have 100 officers and 3 on duty at night for 700 square miles. Not long ago they threatened to stop prosecuting all crimes at the misdemeanor level due to lack of funds. In my experience they have made a science of doing nothing. I have filed a half dozen reports with little result. It is all at the "discretion of the individual officer", who is different every time. Local drug joint task force says that they know all the perps at all levels but only bother with ones who have weapons that may be a threat to officers since "drugs can not hurt us but guns can kill us". What kind of task force was that again?
I just stashed 50lbs of 7.62s. I also bought some smaller magazines b/c they are so cheap. Might not do much good against an A-10, but a gang of 3-4 meth addicts would be barely a fair fight. I can remember back in the 70s when crime went way up too. What ended up stopping it was when everyone down to old ladies started blasting when unexpected visitors came through the door at night. If they go to the A-10s we will be under martial law since they are not technically allowed to use the military against civilians, so I doubt they will care much about what is going on at individual residences. I personally will have business to attend to if that day comes. I have noticed that .45 FMJ is hard to find as well. Be careful with the metals trade. Escalator up and elevator down as they say. It will be valuable in inflationary times, but stocks do well in inflationary environments as well. It never hurts to be prepared, but you can only be right with the armageddon bet one time, so don't get too crazy.

Even if they took out thier "rebels", what`s left in this dumbed down society for an economy to exist on? And, if the orders are given to go against us, do you think they will get 100% coperation from the troops? Or, will they have UN peacekeepers to do that? I still believe in the 3 "B`s". Bible, Beans, Bullets; in that order. One has to know his enemy 1`st, then he has to stay alive for him to even pick up a fire arm. |

I keep a minimum of a 1,000 rounds on hands at all times. They will really regret trying to conform me and my family. I will lay my firearms down for no one.

Life is all about managing risk.
The fuel, ammo, etc. won't help against A-10's or terrorist WMD's. But......they will be very handy in a variety of other situations.....food shortages, civil unrest, roving criminals, etc. So if having those things on hand helps in, say 80% of the potential high-risk situations, it's without question a good thing to have them. Similar to concealed carry when cornered by an armed criminal. If you and the criminal are both armed, your odds of prevailing might be 50/50....which is way, way better than being unarmed and having 0% chance. JMHO, Eric |

I would like to think that if things ever did get out of hand, that our military would not turn on it's own people regardless of who is in power. On the other hand, if things go south, the direction is pretty much already known (socialism). If that's the case, I can imagine some outside 'peace-keeping force' getting sent in. THAT would be cause for concern. Major concern since it would most likely be those that didn't like the US in the first place.

Yeah, I expect a holster sniffer or an apologist to respond negatively to this post. But if it gets to where your country is completely broken, don't expect to hole up in your house and protect it with your rifle. Would that work in northeast Japan with a cloud overhead? Would you want to stay in a contaminated area to 'fight the system'? Could you believe the disinformation they're feeding you in those events? Prepare your mind for all situations or be paralized when one happens that you didn't think about. DON'T expect you'll be staying at home to develop a plan to take your government back. You have zero chance of doing that. They'll just dump something in the water and wait until the flies are done gorging. I don't know why, but I've chosen not to deal with it much at all. I couldn't carry all the stuff people prepare with if I had to leave. Then what? Travel and you come to check points manned by police depts. No more guns/ammo. Then what? Get in that line over there. Heading to the mountains? It's going to be crowded there. Lots of people with itchy trigger fingers. Lots of exposure to the elements. Just try to do it peacefully like they did in Egypt. Don't work a job if it's to pay for the machine that enslaves you to corporations like big pharma, Coke or Big Oil. |
