Who has 64" hanging ?
Gotcha ! Neither do I....unless you fold it in half !
Seriously I'll be mounting a 64" plasma on a wall in my basement and have the luxury of building what I need as I am framing the wall in now. Anyone with big TV out there have any insight on how they would have done it if they could start from scratch ?

If you already have the wall mount, take the measurements of where the mount will be placed (typically centered at 60" above the finished floor). Back the wall mount with 2x4s between the framing studs horizontally (centered on the bolt holes on the top and bottom of mount) the full width or more of the flat panel.
To make a clean mount with no wires hanging put a flush mount power outlet just below where the wall mount will be placed. Run your coax cable to another box next to the outlet, this box can also be used for speaker wires. Last edited by kngstrk; 02-12-2012 at 10:53 AM. |

Combination boxes for behind the TV for both the low voltage & line voltage are available. The line voltage side will have the recepacle set back and sometimes at an angle.

I've got a 63" in the family room & a 50" in the basement. Pay attention to light sources as you don't want to invest a great deal of time & money and not be able to enjoy the picture. I would buy the TV & mounting bracket FIRST so that you know where you need to locate the boxes.
Cut the back off of your low voltage boxes - have one behind the TV as noted above & one behind the equipment. Even better if you have access to the back of that wall you will be able to change/add whatever you need. Be sure you have a clean chase between these boxes. Run a minimum of 3 HDMI cables & one set of RGB to the back of the TV for games, cable, Blueray, etc.. Check the mounting bracket and if the TV is going to stand too far off the wall - recess a box in the wall for it to be mounted in - this will give it a cleaner look. Invest in a good surround system & speakers - the sound will enhance the experience.

Several of the houses I've been looking at lately have a narrow closet space behind the entertainment center area. Open the closet door, walk in behind, and play with cables to your heart's content.
