I showed my wife's 69 GTO last week at the GTOAA-POCI Co-Vention in the Concour's Class. The Judge who judged the engine said I had a after market fuel pump on it. While it was being restored I ordered one off the internet and had it shipped to the restoration shop. They said that was the wrong one. So I ordered another one from Ames. This is the one that was on it last week they said was a after market. Can anyone tell me where I can find a correct AC Delco Fuel Pump. I don't even know if this is what they are looking for???? The engine is a 400 cu in 4 brl. The first one I ordered the guy I bought it from was a "crook"!!! He refused to take it back!!! Thanks Guys

If your car has A/C and the pump has an inlet, and outlet and a return line nipple,
I have an nos one in the box, A/C DELCO part no. 40679 |

If your car has no vapor return line, you need A.C. #40680/Pontiac #6417420. I hope Uncle Judge does not come along to tell me that his January 1969 MPC uses different numbers........................ ![]() I assume these are hard to find--very nice of gtohurstjudge to offer. I only have one extra so I'll hold onto it (see picture). In the 80's, I should have purchased all of these that I could find but did not. I'm just glad that I have an extra correct one.

I do see that The Parts Place has both of these 69 pumps on ebay--both for vapor return and without.
The 40679 pump is slightly different from my older version--but probably just fine.

My extra nos pumps were purchased new in the early 90's and they look pretty
much identical to the originals but they don't have the raised "AC" logo on the upper aluminum housing. They do have the part number stamped on them. Since the AC logo isn't present it would be my guess that they would count off for the pump being incorrect. It would be interesting to know when they quit putting the AC logo on the pumps. |

I avoided getting an NOS example for the very reason that the modern fuels will eat the internals of the pump. Perhaps I was told the wrong information but I have heard that from many. Maybe someone can shed some more light on that.

Mark it is true that new pumps have different material composition for alcohol
laced fuels, but as a practical matter I know of guys who have driven their GTO's for years with old pumps and alcohol gas without a failure, so I would expect the nos pump to last for a considerable length of time, and of course it would be beneficial for point judging to avoid a deduction. I do recommend that carbs be kitted with the blue alcohol resistant accelerator pump rubber that is standard in all new carb kits if that hasn't been done and you are using ethanol. All my cars have stainless steel gas tanks which eliminate the problem with gas tank corrosion from the ethanol, but I wonder if they count off in point judging for stainless tanks as they look much nicer than factory. |

gtohurstjudge---I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when I get my score sheets back!!! I checked the rules on Stainless Fuel Lines & Brake Lines when we restored the car. They were acceptable. But I'm not sure about the Gas Tanks. I have Stainless Lines on ours. We'll see if they hit me on any of those!!! If they did; I think I have a "gripe"!!!! Because I read it in the "Legend" with what was acceptable and it did say Stainless Lines were acceptable as long as they weren't overly "shiny"!!!

I had a freshly done rebuilt carb I put on my 69 two years ago, after a few weeks of driving I had an issue where it wouldn't start cold, crank and crank and found setting the choke with a gas pedal flooring wasn't shooting any juice down the throat. Took the carb apart and found that new blue accelerator pump seal popped off the plastic. I reseated it, got a week out of the carb and it did it again. Got pissed, pulled apart my brand new carb again, stole an old original accelerator pump from a carb that's been sitting for years and swapped it in (couldn't just change the diaphragms because the plastic was different from the repop compared to the original) Anyways, I haven't had a problem since. I haven't had a fuel pump failure on any of my cars since this new crap gas came around a few of those pumps are easily 20 years old. The only problem I've had was with the new blue seal being crap so I'm not sold on the new gas eating old rubber thing I hear consistently and actually had a problem with the "fix" with those new blue acc pump seals which I now call "Crap!"
