I was at the Street Rod Nationals Saturday. Great show, but people on those "handicap" scooters are damn near beginning to outnumber people walking. Especially the indoor portions of the show I was constantly dodging motorized vehicles. I just feel like its inconsiderate to those at the show to feel like you are entitled to take up more space than everyone else.

Now to be clear for those that for real absolutely need them. I get it. I wouldnt wish for someone who couldnt otherwise enjoy life to just sit at home and rot.

That said, just playing the numbers there were LOTS of people on them who couldnt have put forth a little effort and been just fine. Fat and or lazy is not a handicap. They make the fewer number who really need them look bad.

Im a big guy too, after walking around a swap meet on asphalt and concrete my feet for sure wish I was 215 pounds instead of 250. You know what wont help at all? Doing as little physical exertion as possible.

There was also a dude with a full on prosthetic lower leg walking around just fine like a savage. I damn near asked the dude if I could take a picture with him.

Maybe they are lazy, but you don't know that for a fact. It's never a good idea to assume things about others if you don't know the whole story.

Kids on skateboards at shows that are on the streets. Jumping the curbs right between cars, happens to me the kid lost control of his board and my daughter was right there and caught it before it hit my front fender. She gave him a tongue lashing like I’d never heard before. There was even security at this show, my daughter gave the board to a policeman. He took it, and told the kid his parents could come get it at the station.


Then I was another show in a park, and some guys drone crashed 2 cars down from me.

Then there was the guy on a Segway, driving it up to car windows and leaning in for a closer look.

Then there’s the people with dogs on long leashes that wrap around your front end as the owner is looking in the engine compartment. Or the time I walked away to judge the other car owners, handed in my ballots, and got back to my car to find a woman had put her 3 year old in my car behind the wheel to take a picture. WTH?

FYI, obesity is now a handicap and you can get a doctor to sign off that you're medically handicapped if you're obese.

Do I agree with this? I surely don't, but the do-gooders want every person in America to feel they're a victim and need a nanny state to keep getting bigger and bigger and sucking up more taxes. Our education system, grade school, high school, and college teach this crap to those that they educate Then it turns into accepted politically correctness, that's how obesity got turned into a handicap.

The morons at a car show that touch your, car let leashed dogs run around your car, are morons. These people think of cars the same way they view their washer and dryer, appliances that every household has. They just think these are old appliances, and who would be sentimentally attached to an old washer and dryer? It's not theirs, they never keep a car more than 10 years if that, and when they get rid of it it's fit for the scrapyard. They have no love of cars, and it's painfully obvious...…………….

Thats why I said, "playing the numbers" there is no way every 30-60 year old I saw there really needed it. Odds are less than half did. If you really want to believe that every single one there absolutely needed it. I'll just have to say I lived in Vegas for a long time and would happily play the odds on the other side of that debate. Sad fact is that it makes me suspect of nearly all of them, and I hate looking down on someone who really needs it.

Im in my mid 30s so I kinda fall in the middle of the current age social structure. The older generation likes to harp all the time about the "entitled youth". In my opinion some of those people should take a look in the mirror.

When I see people in their 70s cruising along on their own two feet and then a a 40 year old in a scooter smoking a cigarette......I get a bit jaded.

True. However, most of the ones I see are fat, very to extremely fat. I'm sorry but being lazy and fat is not a handicap in my book. Maybe if some of these people got off their ass and walked a bit they would lose some of that weight. Its only a win, win for everyone. As far as these scooters at shows over here, we have a cruise night every night of the week, sometimes 2, and 2 to 5 car shows every weekend and I can say you are lucky to see 1 person in a scooter.

I feel your pain. Saturday at . the Ames show in Norwalk it was like being in downtown Bejing China. Golf carts, scooters, bicycles all vying to park as close to the vendors as possible forcing a person thats walking to constantly walk aways around them to view the for sale items. If you need it use it if you dont give the rest of us a break.

The Ames show was great but we were constantly dodging golf carts, scooters, mopeds, dirt bikes, etc. they really need to get a handle on it- I would allow them on the streets and major pathways (it is a big place) but not in the swap meet or show field unless someone had a handicapped card like they hang in the window.

I quit going to car shows a long time ago..... Actually.. I avoid big crowds of people... Nothing is worth standing in line or tripping over people..

I never let others ruin my fun. I put a lot of sweat and time and energy into restoring cars, so others could also enjoy them, as well get to see my car friends so I will continue to attend events, just a lot more cautious and aware when I’m there.

I have to say, a lot of people who have the scooters and rent golf carts at Norwalk or any car event that’s usually in the heat of Summer, do so because of health issues, some just have them as a convience and act like they’re on the track, when in the show and flea market areas. We don’t know who has a heart condition, or any illness that prevents them from walking an event, me being one of them. So as long as they’re respectful to others, and what’s going on around them, I’m ok with the vehicles. If I see idiots, I generally speak up, and let them know they’re acting a fool. I’m by no means shy.

I havent really seen a problem with them at the shows I go to. I try not to be too judgmental after an experience I had at a Home depot. A guy pulled into the hcap parking in a new escalade. No HCap plates or sticker on the mirror. I was a bit incensed. My sons best friend growing up was handicapped and wheelchair bound, so I have become a bit sensitive to people abusing the situation. Against my better judgement I stood there a minute and was going to say something to him. He opened the backdoor first from the driver seat, and out came a wheel chair. This guy had no legs. Boy did I fell like a fool!

As a side note, when I see kids at a show I ask them if they want to sit in my car, with my help of course. They always get a big kick out of it. Maybe someday they will want to get their own trans am because of that experience.

The last time I was in Las Vegas, I saw that someone got the bright idea to rent those to drunk tourists.

There’s a guy at our local cruise who is there every Friday on his scooter - even when it’s over 110 degrees. He’s 98 years old and flew bombers in WWII. I think he’s earned it.

I'm sorry, but not the case at Norwalk. I was there, and there was entirely too much wheeled traffic. Alot of able bodied young people not wanting to walk. Almost got clipped several times walking through the swap area as people in carts and atv's cruising up and down the aisle. Norwalk is a large venue and i understand the need for some wheels, but there most definitely needed to be some areas restricticted from traffic. I even saw an official telling people they couldn't drive their carts and atv's through the show area. It was ridiculous at times.

Well I was one of the people on a wheeled vehicle at Norwalk and have had a vehicle at Norwalk since 2008 and I can tell you that the pedestrians walk around like they're blind. They'll step right out in front of you, has happened to me over and over especially on the show side. Now if you go over to the pit side the pedestrians are paying attention to wheeled traffic and it's much easier to navigate.

I don't run fast through the show field because people are looking at the cars instead of the traffic on the asphalt roads, same with the swap meet area. I see plenty of people that do go too fast through the spectator side of the track, can't fix stupid though.

Sounds like you have been to the Moultrie Swap Meet! Never seen so many until they started renting them there a few years ago. Of course the venue loves it cause it's mo' money!

I suspect that just like at Walmart, 90% of em are just lazy and need the exercise. Probably have 'borrowed' handi tags on the rear view too. Then there's the "service" animals....

Like anything there are those legit that get a bad rap from the majority posers
