Default New Oil Pan Gasket

Are the little plastic retainers necessary when installing a new Oil Pan gasket on a 326 Motor ?

Not necessary on any engine, and simply makes life a little easier by keeping the gasket located correctly on the pan when setting it in place. I usually Gasgacinch the gasket to the block (just an old habit) and therefore never use the included plastic alignment tabs.
