I have two vehicles that need 0W-20.
I see rumors online of predicted shortages for low-viscosity oils. Whether it's truth, lies, or in between, I plan to buy some and tuck it away. Any truth to the rumors and click-bait warnings? |

I buy more than I need, so I have it for next time. Only thing I hoard are US made filters when I find them. I really miss having the choice to buy American, now I have to put in a lot of effort to find stuff that's made here.

My 0-20 oil BMW is very happy on 0-30. 0 -20 is for fuel economy not motor protection and so what if the oil you require is a little hard to find and pricey, how many oil changes you have to do in a year 3-4? The price is going to come down again soon enough.

Yeah this is probably just the tip of the iceberg especially when you think about all the products that are made with oil. Not to mention how transportation costs will impact almost every consumer good we purchase. I am going to get a few 5 gallon oil jugs before prices go up, it is hard keeping up on 5 vehicles.

Remember the gas lines in the `70`s? We were "out of oil" back then?

About like now? There is plenty of oil, but the OPEC wouldn't send any out. So no oil to make gasoline from. Lasted quite awhile. Luckily we had 2 cars with each an even or odd number. So could get gas any day. (after waiting in line forever)

Wow you know it can get bad when an AI chatbot responds.
In the 70's the oil crisis was because of OPEC restricting oil from the middle east. Now similar because once again oil is being restricted from the middle east for a different reason............war. Even if the war ends tomorrow the supply of oil is not all of a sudden going to bounce back to pre-war capacity. It is going to take a while for oil related products to drop, if they ever will. There is around 300 million vehicles in America, that is lot of oil changes

Still the best deal on oil is at Costco. Just went last week and stocked up as usual because I have a few cars and only get to Costco every six months.

Speaking of toilet paper.
Comparison of Costco house brand and Angle Soft. Costco remains the deal unchanged even from Covid. Costco on the left, angle on the right. Angle on the paper holder.lol ![]()

![]() Actually the cheap single ply is the best for filtering oil, you want the media as tight and compact as possible. No pillowy air pockets in the media. The more dense the better for filtering purposes. ![]() Used, and new rolls during a media change. |
