I found a used posi unit and 3.55 ring & pinion. Ready to swap out my open 2.93 rear end. Anybody know anyone in Austin/San Antonio Texas area who can do the work reasonably?? Austin Drivetrain said they won't do it unless I bought the parts from them new. They did my K5 Blazer 8 yrs ago but they have lost my business in the future. Thanks in advance! greg

I wouldn't be too hard on your local shop. Used gears, even though they look good, can whine. The shop probably got fed up arguing with customers over whose fault it was.

if you got all the bearings and shims with the unit it should not be too difficult to do. i did the same thing, the only difficult part was setting the preload on the pinion gear. all the shims went in the correct original location and gave me acceptable clearances and patterns. try it you'll like it. this was the first one i ever did. the actual hardest part was putting the entire rear back in the car. i took it out to clean and paint it and it was easier to do the center section with it out of the car.

Gage-- I am about half-way between Austin & San Antonio. I had my '67 rear end rebuilt by MO Gears in SA. (210) 886-9934) Was real happy with their work. Not sure if they'll work with your parts, but worth a try. good luck.

Gage, what type of car are the gears going in. I have a 67 gto with a 2.93 rear and have been told that the most gear I can stick in the carrier is a 3.23. I hope everything fits. Maybee somebody with a little more drivetrain knowlege can chime in. Good luck.
