Any idea where I can get a thermal vacuum switch for a 1969 Pontiac GTO. I ordered 1 through NAPA but it may not fit the plug I have. Is it ok to do away with the plug and just run the vacuum lines right to the switch. There are 3 lines and it doesn't look like it would make a difference what outlet they go to. New to this board. Thanks.

you'll need to get the right hose to the right terminal on the switch.
the ports either open or close as the coolant temp increases. mike

Hi,
I believe that a 69 GTO uses the same set-up as on a 68 GTO. Look at the picture below. You can buy the switch from PY, Year One and Ames to name a few suppliers. It mounts on the right front of the intake manifold in the forward water passage. There is a GM Service Bulletin regarding the use of a distrubutor vacuum control valve for automatic vs manual transmission cars. Basically, the auto trans cars don't use the DVCV because it causes a clunking problem. I have been looking for a DVCV for over a year without success. The part is discontinued. I am running my Manual Trans car hooked up like an automatic trans car. Works fine. Mike 1968 Pontiac GTO 400CID, 350HP, 4-Speed Manual, 3.55 rear. Aquamarine Blue exterior, 219 Blue interior. I have a manual trans, but I think it was originally an auto. I may try the part from NAPA as long as it fits into the manifold and hook the vacuum lines back up without the plug that is on the car now. Year one, etc have the part for around $50 but it takes a few days to get and I don't want to wait.

May also be called a ported vacuum switch. If this works it may give you a lead.
ported vacuum switch Dan The DotRod rides again.
