Way to go Jim your car is flying. My good friend Jim just got his new 462 race motor(traditional block)in his firebird. His car weighs 2850 race weight.Gabby at Induction Specialties did his non wideport heads which flowed 330.I worked out the H.P.760 to the ground with the slide rule. WOW !!!! No wideports,no wenzlers,462 ci.On his 8.93 run his short time was 1.28 and 149 mph.The car is just a back half car not a tube chassis.Jim I think you may have a record for the most power made with a traditional block with non wide port edelbrock heads no nos.I think Gabby did a Fantastic job on your head intake cam selection.Jim you may need to get a IA2 block soon !!! DAn.

"Jim I think you may have a record for the most power made with a traditional block with non wide port edelbrock heads no nos." Need to add NATURALLY ASPIRATED. Marty Palbykin holds the record for the quote you made with 1600 hp on a 400 traditional block with CAST IRON heads and NO NOS. You did not mention Turbos in your post! Just kidding, one way or another you are making some real power. Tom V. ps I am sure Steve will comment that Arnie holds the record with his Nitro burning, blown, Super Duty, etc combination etc, etc, and that is when the major trash talking will begin. Marty's combination was something that everyone could build. (Cheap heads, Cheap block, alcohol, diesel turbos, etc.)

Hello, and thanks for all the kind words on Jimmy's car. That was only the sixth pass on the car. It was not dynoed, and we still have not put a timing light or touched the carburetor. We are creeping up on the shift points, and the mph just keeps coming up. Last one was 149.60. The last pass would of been quicker, but it had a massive 150ft wheelstand with no wheelie bars and a powerglide transmission. We are hoping for 8.70's by Norwalk, after we tame the car down and tune it up a bit. It is a 467" motor with std E heads, and it is the first Pontiac motor to come out of the shop. We usually do "outlaw style" 10" tire nitrous stuff. I am not a "only Pontiac" guy, but I have always respected them for their power potential. We hope to do more in the future, as well as help people with any questions (except cam specs!

Ventura, we are currently working on a updated and professional website. However, a customer and friend a while back took time to make one with pics of the shop and some customer's cars. It is www.freewebz.com/inductionspecialties. You can email me if you have any other questions at gabesnova@aol.com. Thanks again!!

Congratulations.
I Agree, good power can be had without hogging the E-heads out a huge amount. My 'small' 450ci motor makes over 700 HP and the ports have been enlarged only enough to remove the push rod bulge, no further. Flow numbers are not really that much either with 324cfm @.600 (28"). We put the motor in a friends car and it ran 9.94 at almost 135 mph this last weekend without nitrous (Victor intake & 1050 Dominator w/279 @.050 solid roller. Only 11.2:1 cr. About 3150 lb. race weight).

You are correct. We did not "hog" out the ports by any means. We spent a lot of the time on the flowbench, figuring out the correct valve angles, valve shapes, margins, back cut angles, etc. We kept the cross sectional area over the short turn and around the pushrod at the very minimum required to feed a 467" motor at a max rpm of 7500. The goal was to raise the rpm range another 1000 rpm more than his previous motor (built by a Pontiac guy) without sacrificing torque. It's simple physics, if you want to make more hp you have to raise your peak torque number, and try to make the torque as flat and as extended as possible. AveAlthough flow numbers are important to make a specific power level, it by no means a "guarantee" to achieve your goals. Other variables take into account, such as cross sectional areas, port velocity, mixture motion, shape, swirl, throat diameter, etc. Besides, my Superflow 1020 is usally conservative by 10-15cfm compared to a Superflow 600, as confirmed by my friends in the industry. A motor is useless to me if it does not accelerate off the bottom of the gear. It's very easy to make the E heads too big for the application. Sorry for the rant, and thanks again for the compliments!

Of course I know Ronnie, his shop is one block behind mine! Are you the same Tom that also knows Keith Wilson? If you are, we had lunch several times when I worked at Wilson Manifolds, while going to school for my bachelor's in mechanical engineering. Around 1997-1998. Small world eh??
