quote:
ill name the big 2 imports for ya that are in the same price range ($35,000) that can out perform or at least hang with the GTO

1. EVO VIII
2.WRX STI
plus you can pick up a srt 4 for $20,000 thats not as fast but that gives you $15,000 to play with.

Aren't those FWD riceburners? Sorry, not into them, no matter HOW fast they are....... Plus, I thought looks were important?

If I spent $35K on one of those, I WOULD be pissed, every time I got into it, knowing I could have had a real car, with a manual, correct wheel drive, and a whole engine, for less money......

quote:
i dont understand why people buy "sports" cars and dont use them for whats intended.

So, I shouldn't have a fast car, because I don't street race? Why not have it all? A comfortable, good looking FAST car. There is a lot more to life than street racing (like court, jail, fines, no license, hospitals etc....), as you will likely find out as they are towing your car away, or worse.

quote:
its like the old guy driving a new vette 30 in the slow lane. ( thats why i said if i was going to buy a car to roll in it would be a older car like a 30's-40's model. or id send the $35,000 and get a somewhat luxury car.

Hmm..... I'm an old guy, and certainly don't drive slow, or go "rolling", so I spent $26K and got a semi luxury car that is fast.

quote:
if someone wants to run em from light to light bring it.

You'll learn.......

quote:
hell every time i got pulled over i get out of it AND bs with the cop(s) for 5-10 mins because what the car is.

I am sure you do. When I am driving to work, I don't really have the inclination or time to BS with a cop about my car. If/when I get pulled over (hasn't happened with the new GTO yet), I want the interlude over as quickly as possible. I don't generally drive in a way that I am likely to get tickets (13 years and counting), but I do get pulled every so often due to where/when I drive. I do not drive slow in places where there is little chance of getting caught, but I do drive within 10mph of the limit in places where there are likely to be cops, since it is highly unlikely that I will get a ticket going less than 10 over, and that was proven a few times in the Formula. With the GTO, I probably won't even gret pulled over in the first place.

quote:
it gets a lot fo attetion and i like it. it turns heads. i get comments when i stop for gas or if im parked next to someone at the store.

Funny, but in those situations, the '04 gets attention too. Much more than I though it would. People are always coming up and asking about the car, how I like it etc, and have only heard a few negative comments.

quote:
im sure it would be nice to have EFI and no wait for the car to warm up before you can get on it. but i like my 428 better.

I can guarantee that if you had half the drive I do, that you'd HATE the 428, for a variety of reasons.....

quote:
yeah im 22 so that makes me younger. theres a lot of 13 sec cars around here.

LOL....... Yup, there were lots of 11-12 second cars around when I was growing up too..... It's amazing how many 11 second Camaros my 14 second GTO wiped up.

quote:
yeah theres a lot that will spank my car. but i have to drive it everyday so no big cam/gears/converter. thats why im setting up my car to be a low 12/high 11 street/strip car. and by street i dont mean on a trailer. theyre set up for a race only 11/10's weekend toy. slight diffrence here.

I think you just contradicted yourself........

thanks on the avatar. i agree with your post about 90%. i cant see the mustang handleing better with its solid rear axle. i also think that asking $35,000 for a new GTO is a bit on the high side. the performance isnt worth it. id be embarassed to buy a new GTO and have a couple 4 banger imports (in the same price range) hang rith with it if not beat it in acceleration,1/4,0-60,and in the skid pad. GM needs to do something about this. im surious what the sales figures are on the chevy cobalt. thats that da** import wanna be. id be sick if they are selling better then the GTO.

GTO is $34K new. Just a hand full of cars can go 13 flat at 107mph, get 26mpg. The top of the line Evo can match it but it doens't have the same torque as the LS2. It is lighter so it will handle better. The Cobalt can't compete with it and the cobalt SS will sell more than the GTO since it is $12K cheaper.

i think the EVO will handle better because its a AWD car. i know the cobalt SS cant compete as far as performance i was curious on the sales end of it. its sad when someone will pick a import wanna be over a V8 muscle car.

just to let you know im not a expert. i dont claim to be and prolly never will. thats why i buy books and learn. if i was an expert i wouldnt be on here asking for comments or questions about stuff that people have done or have a better way of doing it. why do i have to use technical data to prove my point when i can use common sense? like i said before if you cant understand common sense then you wont understand technical data. pontiacs were made since 78/9. but the real pontiacs were when the engines were made by pontiac. the others just have the badges. you keep on telling me to find this of find that but you cant answer one question ive been asking you. what part of the 04 GTO is a pontiac ( found only on or in pontiacs ) other then the badges? you cant side step that question forever. maybe you should go to the BMV and get that title changed. ill be waiting on your answers first before i find this or find that from GM sites or GM workers.

how can something with a soild rear axle handle better ? ok go ahead and spend $3,500 on a paxton and have 450 hp. you can do the same with the 04 gto. heres a link of a local speed shop with a guy that put a supercharger on his 04. speed costs money how fast do you wanna go ?

http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=24

keep in mind the 05 has 50 more hp then the 04.

what is this middle school again ? "if you dont answer my question then thats admitting that...." Cmon man grow up a little. and where did i say that the LS1 isnt a good engine? other then the fact that my roomie blew a LS1 in a 98 SS (this was a new car at the time and he wasnt my roomie then) and got a 97 T/A with a LT1 (2 years old at the time) and we tried to blow it and we couldnt. id take a origional pontiac engine over either a LT1/LS1. you want to talk about weaseling out of a question you never answered my question about what part of a new GTslow is pontiac (that means is only found in a pontiac) besides the badges?

First, there is no such thing as a gtslow.

Second, Tripower455 already answered you.

Finally: The seats. The front fascia and much of the rear fascia. The brake calipers. Much of the instrument panel/dash. The fuelrail/coil covers.

Now, all you can say is: "I like the vintage Pontiac engines better". You can't even give one instance of how they are better?

The next time some little weasle syas he's got a 10 second car ask him if that's in the 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile! Seriously, most of these ricers don't even know what it means to say you have a 13 second car, 14 sec, 11 sec, whatever. My son tells me there is a kid in his High School bragging he's got a " 8 second" CRX. My son, being sceptical like his old man, asks KIDCRX to show him the time slip. KIDCRX says "What time slip?" My son replies: " The 1/4 time slip from RMR." (Our local NHRA Drag Strip). KIDCRX says :Oh, I meant an 8 second 1/8th mile behind my house!

dont get me wrong the new gto is a decent car. but i think that GM could have done better. its sad when imports in the same price range can hang with it. if gm is going to put more time and money into a cobalt that is a import wanna be then the GTO theres a problem.

would you please just shut up now. You don't have a clue, you've NEVER had a clue about anything you are talkinag bout. I know you are a young kid but damn boy go take a business class would you?

It isn't sad, it is the way of life these days. The old GTO wasn't ever all that fast compared to the Mopars or Buicks or the heavy duty Chevies, but today the Corvette then the GTO run the streets for GM. Other companies just stick high HP AWD systems in their cheap ass cars and they have winners. But I will tell you, Mitsubishi might not be around in 5 years and GM owns part of Subie, so be happy there is competition.

The cobalt is not in the same class as the GTO or Evo. THe sooner you learn that the better off you'll be.

i never said the coblat is in the same class. its a junk $20,000 car that is chevys answer to the import. just like you said about mitsubishi maybe not being around in 5 years you dont know if the import craze will be either. why dump that kind of money in 1 project insted o fmaking the whole line of cars better.
