I picked up a 71 T 37 last winter with the intentions of restoring it, It has lots of rust i need to replace the floors and both rear quarters rusted out behind the wheels and the frame seems to be very rusty also. Are these cars worth much after restoring them and are they very rare or what it seems that I dont see too many of these around or hear of too many people talk about them. I seem to be having a tough time on deciding whether or not to restore this car or find something else . If anybody has any knowledge of these cars or any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks Jeff

Having spent 3+ years of time and more money than I can tell my wife without ending up divorced, on my rust bucket goat I would pass! Much better to start with a good car!

t-37's and gto's have swapped places over the yrs. when they were new t-37's were more common than a gto [cheaper].now that gto's have become popular they're common.
if the car has frame rust [severe not surface] then ditch the car. if you're trying to make money off of it sell it and buy something more desirable to the common buyer. if you want to have an old car that's somewhat different and won't be seen at every show / cruise-in, you're not worried about the final value, or you want a race car then we need some more info as to whether the car is savable or not. mike

As far as I can tell the frame just has surface rust, I have picked up another 71 Lemans 4 door that is in a lot better shape, I was planning on using the front clip and hopefuly I can cut out part of the rear quarters behind the wheels and maybe weld them on the car. I would just like to have a nice cruiser.

If the frame is decent and you have another parts car, I would save it. Like the other posts said now a days theres lots of GTOs and Lemans out there but the tempests and T37s seem to be becoming more scarce. Probably because they were used to rebuild alot of goats.

JV628 your asking a tough GTO crowd on this board!! There wasent a Pontiac born worth anything if it wasent born a GTO.Ihe only thing that matters is DO YOU LIKE THE CAR? In my eyes every Pontiac deserves to be saved not only the GTOs. Theres nothing wrong with trying to be different.

I'm in the same boat with my GTO. I spent 20k to buy a 67 Conv. that is car #20 out of Pontiac with Red Inner Fender liners. I just found some rust on the floor that goes into the rockers and lower fenders. My dilema...do I spend a fortune to fix the problem right or sell it for what I paid....This game really stinks if youre not rich!!!!

Pontiac A bodies and lifelong Pall-Mall smokers have 2 things in common.....wanna guess???
Even if you can do it yourself, or have body shop buddies/contacts it is a time consumer. Also these things tend to "snowball" into tremendous undertakings (just ask). Not to discourage you in any way; make sure that you have have the ness. space, tools, $$$$$$, drive, and brain cells/abilities to see it through. Nothing is worse than getting halfway there and then having to cut bait (buddy of mine did that with a really sweet mustang). That said, go for it if its want you want, you really dont see many t37's. "mean" |
