I am new to Pontiacs as this is my first, The book I have tells me what I have is a 1967 Catalina 4DR HT with a 400 V8 rochester 2bbl. with 143 heads block code B227 86133 #419571 YC, single exh. with distributor # 1111253 and cam # 9779254(u) with 10.5:1 CR and a TH400. I have replaced the wires, plugs, cap & rotor, fuel filter and battery so far. It has from the previous owner 89-92 Oct. The MAIN problem I am having is that the auto choke is closing up when the engine gets warm, I go about 2-3 blocks and then it stalls, the timing is set according to the book at the mark at 6 degs BTDC the RPM's I'm getting are aroung 1350-1500 in idle and 600-800 in drive, when put in drive or reverse the engine stalls sometimes and the choke is closed.PLEASE HELP!!! As this is my ( or should I say NEED it to be ) my daily driver. Thanks Brent

Sounds like the choke pull off vacuume diafram is not working,(cracked, leaking), need to check that when vacuume is applied the lever pulls the choke open.
Anyone have another idea?

The carb I have is a Rochester 2bbl 2GC, the housing plate containing the thermostatic coil is slightly cracked.
