Hello, I am new to this forum , but hope someone can answer a question for me. I just put money down today on a 66 lemans hardtop. A
very nice & stright car. The question I have is it has buckets with no console between the seats. It also has a column shift with at one time was a 2 speed automatic. It now has a turbo 350. It has an orginal 326 engine, (the owner claims). It was too dark to verify vin # and told the owner everything had to check out before I would pay the rest of the money, which he claims it will. What should the right # and what location in the VIN ? Also could you get bucket seats with a column shift? Jay |

The number of the vin that matches the block is the last 5 digits. I own a 71 Buick Skylark 2 door sedan(post coupe) that also has a column shift with bucket seats. It seems kind of strange but there is a center glove box type storage compartment that sits between the bucket seats(not a shifter type consol) that looks factory although I have never seen another like it. Moreover, the vin sugests that this is a L6 250ci engine, but the engine block does indeed match the vin and Buick has claimed that not all in line 6 cyl marked vin plates had a six cyl engine instaled at the factory. The only way I could verify the bucket seats to the bench seat was to examine the seat belt bolts for a third lap belt that may have been removed and bolt head scars from removing and reinstalling the bolts.

Not exactly sure about a 66 Lemans but I have a 68 GTO with a column shift and bucket seats. It's kind of rare especially for GTO. You got this combination when you ordered the automatic but did not order a center console.

VIN on block didn't appear until 68. My 67 442 convert is a bucket/column car.

I installed column-shift into my 68 GTO...buckets. Primary motivator was the complete intact wiring harness&fuseblock that must goes with it. Otherwise morbid curiosity on the 10sec GTO getting column upshifts on the TH400 .
That means my auto console & dual-Gate are "sitting around"...it was a 4-speed so the manual console is also sitting around. Probably know about sell interest after Chistmas. HIS
