What happens if at any time the local and/or state revenuers audit the dealership, and they have inventory that's not accounted for?

What's a "floor plan"?

I know of no car dealership that finances their inventory Scott, so what "floor plan" are you talking about? What financier are you talking about?

The dealership pays the inventory taxes, Scott. Likely on a quarterly basis. Not some "floor plan" holder or financier.

I wish my aunt were still alive Scott, to talk to you about how a dealership really runs.

She used to ream my uncle a new one every so often about the used car count and how she wanted it lower on the books.

In my uncle's case anything over 75 vehicles (per franchise/ dealership) and she was pissed.

You can get a lot of dead wood on used car lots with several dealerships pretty quickly.

That was money she was losing.

There are new cars that the dealer keeps on his lot, pays a fee for the car being on his lot each month, and pays for the vehicle when he makes the sale.

There are used vehicles that the dealer keeps on his lot, owned by the dealership, that he pays taxes on and typically tries to move as soon as possible. Some he eventually loses money on or gives away at an auction to get them off his car count.

Still do not see your point of this latest divergency from the real topic.

If the cars aren't paid for, the dealership doesn't "own" them; the finance company does.

And who holds the titles?

Just as you don't "own" your house, if your bank still holds the mortgage.

I own my house. I hold the deed. The bank has a lien on it until the mortgage is paid off.

Same goes for my 2002 Dodge.

"Floor plan": What Scott will have to do should he ever decide to restore on of his rust bombs that's in storage.

Tom, no problem, glad you added more details to what info I posted , as i just posted a general review of what Bruce told me a few years back,I talked to him about it again a few days ago, he said while there, he got to see the car,(unrestored) and felt it was legit! he said Randy knew his SD stuff, and he wouldn't have bought it back in 1982 if it wasn't legit!

Thank you for posting some very good pictures of an awesome Pontiac. I enjoyed seeing them. I can appreciate the time and money spent on making it look the way it does now considering what there was to start with. When I first started racing my first Pontiac, a '66 GP, I was given the nickname "Mr. Pontiac" at my local track as I was really the only dedicated Pontiac racer there. Later, as I got to know the history of Pontiacs a bit better, I found out that Jess Tyree, (not Arnie Beswick as stated previously in this thread) called himself that years before me. I have met and spoken at length with Jess several times at the track and he's a real cool guy. Only wish he'd put a "real" Pontiac motor in his car again. As a newer member here on this forum, I don't know all the "players". I have found that there are some who are happy to help, enjoy seeing how others are doing, and are a credit to Pontiac racers and enthusiasts. I hope to get to know you all. My current project is a M/T hemi motor. I'll probably only be in the "race" thread from now on as I was only here because the '63 Wagon post caught my eye.
