Hello, I found an old junk yard that's been closed for a long time. Most of the Pontiac stuff i know. But, a strang set of heads have me tweaked because I can't find any information on them. The normal place for the heads marked just has a tall single vertical line. Not a number '1', but more of a line. Inside though the full casting number is poretty easy to read one I cleaned the area and used my glass to get in close. # 9778822. Now, I know that the 88 could be a slopy cast 9773322, but either way I can't find anything. And yup, they are 100% Pontiac and have the normal looking rockers, keepers and springs. One more question, I also seen a set of really nice # 15 heads. The books list this as a 360 HP 455 head, but yet I hear or read so little about them or their being used. Whats the deal with the # 15 heads? I ask this cuzz I got to 455 engines. One is new and has new SD ported 6X's but the other is a low compression 75 455 #51 head running fine but low on go. So, the #15's crossed my mind. BUt more because of lack of anying info I se about them. Thank you everyone for your input. I do use what I learn if it's something I can do or ned to do. < Mike >

RR67GTO have the heads cc'd,or check the casting date.I believe there were 2 different casting dates for the 15's.1968(an advertised 10.5:1 on a 400) and again in 1970(an advertised 10.5:1 on a 455).In both application they were considered "Big Car" and possibly small valve heads.Maybe someone can shed some additional light,but have them cc nonetheless.The 9778822(9773322) presents more of a challenge.Do you have a casting date?Wild guess???64-66 vintage,Roger.

Hi,
The 1970 #15 heads have 1.96" intakes and 1.66" exhaust valves. It was rated at 360 hp in the 455 cid engine. They have pressed in rocker studs.
You can have the exhausts enlarged to 1.77" and put in hardened seats. I'm running a set on my 462 cid engine. My compression is 9.34:1.

The 9778 prefix of the number for your "mystery" head indicates it is a '65 head.

And there is a 326-285HP head casting number 22,so it would be my best guess that your "mystery" head is indeed the 326-285HP head.

The extra 8 is probably just to identify it as an 8 cyl. engine,not sure 'bout that though.

Also could be a code to indicate any number of other things.

The '65 326-285HP engine is the tempest/lemans 4 bbl. carter carb 10.5 CR.

That would be my best guess as to this.

Thanks friends. I'm going to look again at the odd heads and first see about a casting date. IF I CAN REMEMBER WHERE IT'S LOCATED !! on the heads. As for the 15's, they do in fact already have the screw in studs that much I do no. Now, again I need to look up and see where the casting date is located on Pontiac heads. But as for seeing any of the RA heads I didn't see anything that stuck out and made me shiver. It's full of heads of all americian makes and years, as well as intakes. Some aluminum intakes from GM but nothing that looks like Pontiac to me and only one was a dual quad but for some kind of BBC engine. Lots of Ford and older Chebby heads and a welth of other things. Believe it or not, I counted nine 55 to 59 Chebby pickup gauge clusters all sitting in a row. Also some first gen Camero front fender corner pieces in a real ugly light green. It's not alll up for grabs I don't think but if it were, I'd try striking a deal hit my bank account and haule the container it's in back home and spend a year looking it up and selling it to those who need something. Guys a little bit odd of course like they all are who have and wont let go simply because they can.

I have something similar and have been wondering what type of heads they were. Do they have any markings on the right hand port as you are looking at them? Mine have 092 on one and 097 on the other. Also GM is stamped on left port on both.

Tom, thanks for posting. I will have to clean the heads up a little better in order to get all the informarion cast on them. Once I know I will post what I find. Thanks again Tom
