Got the new Summit aluminum radiator in and the new hd trans cooler in.....seems to be working pretty well. I KEEP THROWING BELTS !!! Sorry for shouting. I've bought different sized belts, different manufacturers belts, ran straight edges along the pulleys, sanded the inside of the pulleys (they were screeching), new motor mounts. (68 FB conv w/455) When I hit the gas pedal in the "full go mode" it's fine until I throw 2nd gear. (TH400) Then I can watch one of my belts lay on the road behind me and usually the other belt is laying over the carb. Today they both popped again and the temp climbed through the roof. I was about 1 1/2 miles from my house so I drove it home and watched it boil over in my driveway. Went back with my truck and retrieved the belt which was way twisted but not split. HELP !!!

If I remember correctly the FB had the thin top bar for the alt.You should be able to fit a later style alt bracket with little mod.(I think drill and tapp one hole on intake) this will stop the torque related flex on the alt which is getting thrown then pinched by the power steer belt throwing it.

Thanks for the info. I have a couple extra brackets but I think they might be from a different year power steering unit. Maybe I can adapt them, make my own, or brace the one that's on there. I wasn't sure which belt was taking out the other.

my bird has two top brackets on the alt. 1 to the intake [ t/stat housing] and one to the water pump. i don't know if it's oem or not but the set up does keep the alt stable at high rpms. mike

my 69 bird has the 2 brackets too.....original........we removed most everything when we detailed the engine and compartment.......spent 2 hours and a six pack trying to remember where this part went and why it looked so much like the other one.....yea, I know, should always label every part.......but that would reduce the beer consumption
