Does anyone out there know if it possible to put the fenders and front end on the body of a 1972 lemans so that it would appear to be a 1970 GTO? How different are they from 1970 - 1972 in appearance other than this?

Yes. This 70 GTO is really a 72 Le Mans.

i can tell you that a '71 lemans nose (fenders, hood and nose, incl. chrome bumper) will fit on a '70 gto. i bought one in this condition and have since brought it back to gto. no chance of it being a fake - i bought it in 1988 - as a lemans. the 24267 (it's a conv.) vin # tipped me off that it was a gto. the seller didn't have a clue, and didn't try to represent as a gto.
