Does anyone have any experience installing fourth gen. seats in a second gen. T/A? I've heard that all you have to do is change the brackets on the bottom of the seat. It can't be this simple! What about the back seats? You can by a good used set of fourth gen. seats for the same cost as buying new seat cushions and covers for a 2nd gen. and having them instaled.

When i was look at t-56 tranny swaps for my 78 t/a, i asked that same question. the answer is yes they will fit. (fronts only) the rears are different. From what i was told they will bolt right in due to a similar floor pan structure. If you want to go w/ the lumbar and power additions, a little seat frame rail mod may be needed but not much . but all in all, they will bolt right in.

I retro-fitted 4th gen. Recaro / PMD power seats in my 78 TA years ago. They work and function flawlessly. The comfort cannot be matched by any hi-back 2nd gen seat!
You will either have to modify the lower seat mounting rails or add shim(s) at the mont tabs. The floor pans on the 4th gen are flatter w/ less drop &/or rise than the 2nd's.
Recommend using aluminum for the spacers as it wont rust and paint to match carpet. Longer grade 5 or 8 bolts must be used on the mounts w the spacers. For my driver's seat; the left front mount required 1" spacer, the right front none, the left rear 1/2", the right rear 1". Any less at any point and the power seat wont adjust completely through it's entire range.
