I just purchased a 1968 GTO that has a 4 speed with no shifter and I'm not sure which tranny it has. It has no S or M numbers stamped on the side only GM numbers which are P9C08B, which I think has something to do with the manufacture date, 3925660 and 395030 stamped on the side. The housing has two linkages on the main body and one on the tail shaft housing. I'm just starting to see the problems you run into in restoring these muscle cars myself hope someone can help

3925660 is a Muncie #, 1968 and 1969 I believe, maybe used in 70 also.

where is the "P9C08B" cast on the transmision?
I have a a 68 4 speed as well, I couldn't see the numbers. It has a thin layer of dirt & grease on it, but I didn't want to scratch the aluminum up scraping away looking around for the numbers. It was pretty cool to see no one ever had the trans out of the car before me. Looks really nice under the layer of dirt. I even notice a section that had a blob of pink paint on it. Must have been an assemblie line thing? 68
