I have a 67 Catalina w/ a 400/400th. When I'm driving it down a hill or letting it coast at cruising speed, it slips out of gear. When I hit the gas again it revs for a second like it's in neutral, then it pops back into gear. I just put the car back on the road after about 8-9 months. I also installed a new edelbrock carb. Did I put the vac hose and modulator hoses on the wrong sides, or is it the trans itself? The car didn't do this the last time I drove it 9 months ago.

Don't blame me cause your chevy broke down, you should have bought a PONTIAC!!

Goatherder,

Start by checking the fluid level on a flat surface with the transmission warmed up (3-5 miles of driving) and make absolutely sure it is full.

Next, I would suggest checking the filter for contamination.

Simple things first...Robert

You might be correct about the vacuum line. The modulator is spposed to have manifold vacuum not ported vacuum.
Disconnect the vacuum line from the carb and hold your finger on it.If you have no vaccum at an idle and you have vacuum when you race the motor, you connected to ported vaccum. If you have a vacuum gauge,it will make things easier.
You should have approx.15" of vacuum at an idle and it should drop as soon as you hit the gas.
I had a customers car do the same thing after he changed the carb.
